Scenario Description and Notes
========================================
Climb aboard the NCTM Halls Ferry Steam Excursion and enjoy a leisurely trip through the North Carolina countryside along the former Southern Railway N-Line. Todays motive power is a restored Southern Railway Class G 2-8-0 Consolidation. Our journey will depart at 10:00 a.m. from the historic Barber Junction Depot on the grounds of the N.C. Transportation Museum. We will stop for a photo run-by at the Granite Quarry siding where you can test your photographic skills. The first leg of our journey will conclude at Halls Ferry, NC, where passengers will enjoy a southern-style Bar-B-Que meal with all the fixings.
The second section of our steam powered excursion begins at Halls Ferry, NC, with our locomotive running around the train for the return trip. Passengers will have plenty of time for photos along the way. Our journey will conclude at the historic Barber Junction Depot on the grounds of the N.C. Transportation Museum. Your excursion ticket also includes admission to the museum and all its exhibits.
The N.C. Transportation Museum (https://www.nctransportationmuseum.org/) is a historic site, once home to Southern Railway’s largest steam locomotive repair facility in the southeast, and a museum featuring all types of transportation history – railroading, automotive, aviation, and more.
Accessibility Note:
Please be aware that the Halls Ferry depot does not feature a platform ramp. Exiting the train requires using the stairwells of a train car. We advise potential passengers to consider this when planning their dining or layover activities in Halls Ferry.
Embark on the Halls Ferry Steam Special for an unforgettable ride that lives up to its name, blending history, natural beauty, and the unparalleled charm of steam-powered travel.
