CB&Q Burlington Zephyrs Passenger Set

Unread postby gkbaldwin » Sun Apr 14, 2013 3:40 pm

Hi;

This is a question regarding the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q) Burlington Zephyrs Passenger Set done in September 2011 by Michael Calvin. It is a beautiful set, but was done for RW2 and while the cars do have a upgrade path to RW3 however, the E7's (modeled from Dick Cowen's E7 Britkits) do not work in RW3 (loo totally washed put). I tried to remap the old Zephyr E7 to the updated Britkits E7, but was unsuccessful.

Now to my question, this is probably directed to Michael Calvin, is there any plans to update the Zephyr E7's to work in RW3?

If there was a tutorial on the steps necessary to do updating of older units (repaints) to work in RW3 I am willing to do the work.

Regards, Gerry

Horse's mouth and all that... the new models don't support the bump maps I applied to the locos. I may possibly be able to get the textures toned down to get away from the glow-in-the dark look. I'm finishing the B&O Columbian up right now. Once finished, I'll look at the Zephyrs and see what I can do.

MadMike

Looking forward to the B&O Columbian car set. I am aching to build a pre-Amtrak passenger consist to run from Cincinnatti to Chicago and back with both C&O and B&O rolling stock.

This is a beautiful model in a beautiful classical livery, I hope you can do it, Mike.
Thanks!

That paint scheme is my sentimental favorite of all time! and on a side note, those Zephyr passenger cars say "Burlington" on them, where the prototype zephyr cars had the train name on them ("California Zephyr"). And, even though Burlington's E-unit fleet never included any b-units, the fantasy is still fun to play with!! Thanks mike! You are the Man!

With a lot of tweaking, I can get the old, non-updated models to work. The new E7 won't work with the ribside bump map. !!**sorry**!!

Also: I was aware of the nameboard issue, but I compromised to allow for using different drumheads to make several trains from the same coaches.

How about this as an alternate? I'll release some updated skins for the old loco and do this bad boy for the newer E8 model.

Mike,
Your alternate is a great choice! I remember building several wooden models of Burlington pax sets when I was about 10 years old, starting with the Zephyr that ran Minneapolis to Chicago. My memory of exact equipment is a bit foggy--that was circa 1942.

Thanks for all of your research and artwork. !!howdy!!

Sorry, a prior commitment is soaking up all of my time for right now. I have the preliminary work done, and it looks good, but I haven't had time to finish it.
