That's right, but according to all I've read so far, the existing game now is TS2013 (they are no long saying RW4 anywhere), it's not even TS2012-2013 or whatever more wider, for former users. TS2013 default's assets are now, and exclusively, those that come along TS2013, all others are not default and even RSC make some packs free of charge in especial sales, they will not turn into default just because is (or might be) free of charge.

Current default assets cannot be distributed, doesn't matter if payware of freeware, however I guess they can be aliased though. What I didn't understand yet so far is if RSC can not agree (before) or deny/revoke (after) the use of default assets in say the new freeware packs, or even of former versions.

For me it just feels like a rehash of the All Aboard debate a few years ago and that is why I did not use any of Rich Garber's objects in my route. I really didn't want to force someone to purchase assets for a route they may not enjoy. I guess it's just a hold over from my MSTS days, when you could build a route with freeware objects found in the file library along with default objects found in the default routes. Now it looks like RSC has changed the default routes, which brings up another question? Will the four routes included with Rail Works 4, Train Simulator 2013, still be the default routes when RSC releases Rail Works 5 Train Simulator 2014? Will a new asset pack be released when the next version of Rail Works is released next year? Again this is not meant as a RSC bashing thread, I'm just trying to figure out what RSC assets I'll be able to use in my route from this point forward?

Rich,
Good point. " Now it looks like RSC has changed the default routes, which brings up another question? I think this would be a great question that needs to be pointed directly at RSC. I say email them with your thoughts. Since I am at work I have no access to Facebook so posting the quoted phrase from above will get their attention and possibly have a answer. I know RSC pays attention to their facebook page.

I know. Its sad to see things go this direction. I am used to having the assets available since my RW time goes back to early 2010. I can only say this, if you want to run a freeware route and you are a new to TS2013, either go out and buy a route that has all the assets available or buy the assets pack from RSC. I know that sucks to say,but looks like our hands are tied. Yes I started off on MSTS but I dont plan on going back. Since I do have alot of $$$ tied up in TS2013 (from pervious purchases) I will stick with it. If you look at the scenarios I built for the Montour, you have to have certain payware assets to run them and that was only by my option since I wanted to run in the late 1970's time frame. But be happy with what we have. I asked a question over at RUN-8. It was said that all their routes and rolling stock will be payware. So the options are go back to MSTS, (not for me), Stay with TS2013 or go with RUN-8. It will be pay to play situation no matter how we look at it.
Rich and Bob, this could be either a "double or tripple YOI situation!

Part of what has me so comfragraboobulated about Railworks is the default route situation. Last year, it was assumed that the new (at the time) Horseshoe Curve route was going to be added to the core default route list. So, I start aliasing assets from it on my route. And this year? Even though it's one of the best routes out there, HSC is non-default. I don't understand this move, as having that route in the TS2013 main package would make it very attractive to potential new North American customers. It looks like from here out, it's going to be a game that is changed on a yearly basis.

I have one suggestion...your concerns need to be voiced to RSC in the form of an email. My experience has been that they do read and respond to emails. We can debate for days on the forums, but RSC wants to hear from us personally. Several changes and improvements over the past few months have resulted from user response. It's the best way to get results.

Harry,
I understand your point, but what do we do in the mean time? Do I continue to move forward updating my route and adding new updates to the file library only to find out the updates I've added do not conform to the new EULA, or do I wait? Realize I could still be waiting until this time next year for clarification on the EULA? We have reached a damed if you do, damed if you don't situation *!sad!* Like I stated earlier, can I still upload what was once default assets with my route, or can I only upload my route in rwp format and let the end user try and figure out what he/she needs to run the route? Also remember I do this as a hobby, if it's going to take me numerous hours to create a readme file that lists every asset used by the route and where that asset can be located, then I'm done as well. I already have a job, I do this for fun and I don't feel like making my hobby my job. And lastly the fly in the ointment, what happens if RSC decides for some unknown reason my route would add to their bottom line? According to their current EULA, they can take anything we create and use it for their own gain. In other words, they can take my route, created a few pieces of rolling stock and locomotives for it a couple of scenario's and sell it as DLC and all I can do is sit back and watch it happen. Will it happen to my route I doubt it, but it could and with that thought I have to ask myself why I should continue to create anything for Train Simulator 2013. One last point, RS Derek does read these forums, maybe not on a daily basics, but I'm pretty sure the folks at RSC know what all the buzz is about.

Rich,

I realize that my suggestion was not a "quick fix." I just wanted to remind those who comment on the forums that direct communication is the most effective way to encourage change. I believe a workable compromise to the EULA can be reached. My suggestion to you and other gifted creators is to keep working. The creative community was the ONLY force that kept MSTS alive. We all appreciate your work!
