Thanks to "Marleyman" for injecting factual information. Will it stop the speculation, panic, threats, etc? Who are you kidding?!?

The list posted may not be completely factual considering it does not match that statement released by the RSC website. The source is not cited. The official statement is much shorter: http://www.railsimulator.com/newsdetail.php?Ref=366

Also, speculation is extremely important. Some of us put lots and lots of time and effort into developing for this program - and how else are we going to brainstorm a contingency plan should the worst happen? So...I sure hope it doesnt stop it. Besides, considering the track record of the updates, a little bit of a panic is not unwarranted at all. Threats? Now thats just silly! Good show, good show !*brav*!

Another question; I wonder if it would be best for us to remove frame rate limiter codes to see how the new optimizations handle smoothness.

The source can easily be found and it is safe to say it is an expanded list direct from RSC from their 'proxy forum' as it were...

Speculation is a lot more fun than factual information, being that most of the time actual facts are in cryptically short supply. And especially since RSC has such a great record of perfection when it comes to core updates. Better to be safely backed-up and ready to roll-on than sulled up and complaining tomorrow afternoon because you lost all your stuff.

Ah okay. Hence the 'may' not. Its just that I have been unable to locate the expanded list anywhere official. No big deal.

Dazz, we can only speculate on that right now. And since speculation seems to bother some users of this forum, i'm going to do it and rampantly so!

In my experience with Multicore is that when i've turned it on on a four-core i5, two cores go bezerk, one goes to 75%, and the last one is idle. An ideal fix would be to have all four cores handling chores about equaly. An ideal fix would also be to have the cores kick up a notch, instead of dropping out completely, when you hit a tile with intensely packed scenery. It's hard to say though what the actual fix will be, since RW3 is also heavily GPU dependent.

Clouded, the future is.

Aye man - I wholeheartedly agree with what you say there, I am having pretty much the same outcome as what you said with the core usage. I have read a few posts on this topic and tried running the game with and without the settings just to see the outcome for myself.
I was just curious as im am on an older 1st gen quad machine AMD 9500 running at an ancient 2.2Ghz just now and its just bad luck on my part i got what seems to be the only machine from modern times that i cant overclock unless i write a completely new bios for my MBoard. (totally sucks - I Know) I originally had purchased this machine for my studio and dj work i do now and again so it was more than I needed to run my stuff on, but my older (other) pc died a horrible death and thus i started using this machine until i got some money together to upgrade. I can run a lot of the game without any hinderence and even get asset heavy routes to load and run no problems - maybe i get the odd bit of lag on the wcml but my new machine build in a month or 2 should sort that out *!!wink!!*

:D cheers once again :D

I'm looking for better balance of demand on CPU and GPU, and perhaps better balance across cores, but the first should bring nice improvements in performance and smoothness. I think it might be a good idea to remove the limiter line from the start command to see what the update brings in terms of smoothness. Easy enough to add it back in if necessary.

As far as I can see - still runs under DirectX 9.0c and no change for PhysX from cpu to gpu the latter would have given us a better balance between gpu and cpu and a gpu (nVidia) usually handles PHysX better than the cpu. Can't speak for ATI cards.
But the list official or unofficial looks a major step forward, I think that we will all be pleasantly surprised. !*YAAA*!

Certainly looks like a comprehensive update. Very brave trying to this at the same time as a new DLC is released, but there you go. Not too sure about the "skidrow cracks" - that is a new one on me :D

Given the timing differential I wont be able to get this till next week; so if I log in on Monday and all I can hear is the gnashing of teeth, i'll know not to be in a rush...

!*cheers*!

It doesnt seem that long ago, but its been almost five months since the Great Update. This "patch" seems about right for the usual timetable for these things.
