The very last pic, we used to have those here protecting the exits of passing sidings. They were replaced around 01 with tall masts.

For the tutorial (already started) im going to do the SafeTran "Searchlight". Other than the shapes, making the signal aspects ahow up in RW is the same for all other signals, so you should be able to glean enough info from the tut to make whatever you need. Part 1 will be up in a couple of days. In the mean time, eat Thanksgiving with the Donners (ugh! Thats gross!).

bTW, anyone got a name or make on the signal im making at the top of the page? The blueprints are generic, with no id. From the looks of the junction box, it may be one of the last Griswolds. Not sure.

No clue. All we have around here are the old US&S and the new "traffic light" style signals. On NS, it's all Darth Vaders. CSX is the only road left around here that keeps it all.

Union Switch and Signal Style R-2 is what they are
any chance of making some with the black shields slightly bigger (CSX has some with slightly bigger shields)

The glare shield isnt complete. I have yet to measure the signal in the plans. So far i've been going off the photos I have and measurments from other similar signals.

I'm fortunate enough to live in between 3 rail lines. CSX K&A sub, Westen & Atlantic Sub, and NS Atlanta North. Within twenty miles of my house in any direction we've got USS H2's, H5's, R-2's, Lincoln Ind, Safe Tran, and Griswolds. Everything is slowly being switched to SafeTran as signals reach tue ends of servicability. The greatest loss though are the signal bridges, which are being replaced by ST 1-3's.

CSX Redid their Signals here on the A Line to Safetran, but we still have some Searchlights and R-2's here in town but they removed some of the older ones

A little more work... Proper size target, head at proper height, removed man cage, placed platform, reduced size of ladder rungs (looking at these things, I don't see how they could support a small child!).

Jerry,

I just saw these signals today on the BNSF/UP joint North/South line out of Portland, OR to Seattle, WA South of the Columbia river bridge. Oddly, North of the bridge, they are putting in the single hood Safetran signals as they replace them. Mixed in along the line near Kalama, WA, there are several old USS single light targets. Quite the mix.

One in the game, but as yet unfinished. I have a few details to go, and then I can start replicating heads and posts for the two and three-head signals.

Something though does not look right about that head. Does anyone have any measurments on the signal lenses for these things? Modern ones are 9" in diameter, and i'm thinking that is to large for this type signal.

Love the tri-lights!

Haven't looked through this yet, but there might be some info here: http://www.railroadsignals.us/signals/t ... /index.htm
or here: http://www.trainweb.org/signals/cls1.htm

Jerry, will the tri-light also be available for gantries (much the same way as your 'g' heads work)? If you need pictures I can get them for you.

I went out and got a few detail pics myself last evening ( reason for the change to the base and the ladder ). It's going to be two or three weeks before the r-2's are ready. Im switching back to day-shift and i've got two other signal projects going - an update to the Griswolds which is finished save for the paperwork, and the signal tutorial.

SCLALINE, what signal scripts are you using for your route - the US2Def (RW Default) or Pike's Products CSX scripts? Whichever system you are using i'll put together first. They are used on the AND route for about five miles where CSX parallels NS at Dalton.

I actually hadn't planned on doing an entire set of the V-20s's - I don't use them on the AND, I don't have detailed specs for them ( had to figure out the mast height by looking at the photos and measuring the distance btween the ladder rungs ), and they were intended as an easy subject for the tutorial. I still plan to add two- head signals to the tutorial to show how thats done. Send over the pics of the gantries though, as they are basically sticks with signals on them. You use the same signal heads as the regular posts and substitute a ganrty post.
