I am not really a total performance freak when it comes to games but I am going to follow a few suggestions provided here in the forums.
I am happy with the new release.
!!*ok*!! !*salute*! !*salute*!

Neither am I, I just want to be able to play the sim without lagging or stuttering and still be able to enjoy the new upgrade.

Tried gamebooster and got my performance increased by 42% (Gamebooster says so). In game I noticed a increase in fps. I have the settings med-high:

Texture Filtering: Anisotropic 2x
Anti Aliasing: SSAA 2x1
Multi-core: NO.

Pretty musch the same in game with things on HIGH, except water and passenger detail are set to VERY LOW and LOW respectively.
With FRAPS before using Gamebooster I was getting around 10-20 fps setting in Castle Rock. Running Gamebooster with the same settings, camera, etc. I was now getting around 25-40fps. Quite an increase.

Attached is a .txt of my system:

I love it, now it's time for me to really get going on my downtown buildings, and soon downtown towers, have a couple 14 to 20 story high buildings coming for the game. Getting close to releasing my hospital for the game.

Here's a look at what's to come for the freeware route builders, from jpetersjr.

DISASTER! My RailWorks2 file within Steam got corrupted (too long a story to relate here) and I was hoping the 2012 upgrade would fix.

So far...NOTHING! No upgrade!

Will I have to uninstall, reinstall from the original install disk, wait for the Railworks2 upgrade to be applied, and then hopefully, have the 2012 upgrade be aspplied?

Have a friend in England that reports terrible situation there with this upgrade...not good news...

Try this:
Backup your custom content, routes, and assets.
Go to your Steam folder and delete all files (not folders!) except Steam.exe and the file that starts with "ssfn..."
Go to your Railworks folder and delete all files (not folders!)
REBOOT YOUR PC
Go to Steam folder and run Steam.exe (or try your desktop Steam icon); it should start a download of the missing files from Steam.
Finally, if necessary, Validate your Local Cache Files on Steam

One problem I have his hauling a coal train with 4 GE's when you give it power even in notch 5, it puts a mile between each engine and car like the draw gear is stretched and it looks awful. Is there a way to stop that as the old railworks never did that

First impressions - WOW! and WOW!

WOW! It looks great - the new light engine makes the trains look really realistic

and

WOW! What a performance hit!!!

It took a lot of tinkering with the options to get the speed up to a playable level. It is now, though.

Routes have to be modified/built with it. The Horseshoe Curve has it and it sounds like they will be releasing an updated NEC soon with it.

OK, got it to work. Not quite sure what went wrong.

I've got an odd problem and I wonder if it is just me or other people have had this.

I am running the first Castle Rock Scenario - where you have the SD40-2 on one end and the F7's on the other. I'd changed cabs and was driving along and decided to save, exit, adjust some settings and return. When I did I found that I was placed back in the cab of the F7 at the rear which was now trying to pull my train forward.

Very bizarre. Anyone else had this problem when saving, exiting and returning with a train where you have locos at either end?

I did exactly as you suggested, including doing a validation of local cache files for the 2012 upgrade (Railworks icon no longer available) and finally a long download began! Oh goody, goody! I'm getting the 2012 upgrade!

Since I had no icon on my desktop, I went into the Steam folder, down to the Railworks files, and indeed, it had replaced the files I previously deleted (as you instructed.) But hitting the application icon brought up the message, "You must be signed on to Steam." No matter what I do, signing off then back on still has me to "sign on."

What the heck is going on?????????
