SD40-2 SOU

Unread postby kris120 » Sat Feb 10, 2024 12:44 pm

Have applied a better sound using engine sounds by Searchlightsimulations and the existing brake sound by Smokebox to all SD40-2 from HIS/SOUpack01/ and HIS/Saluda/
This requires https://www.store.searchlight-simulatio ... 6-645e3-ep
and some freeware.

I'm still tinkering with the winter textures on the underframe and the bogies ...

I like it. Very nice. Southern always kept their stuff in pretty good shape. !!*ok*!!

Very nice work indeed. And it has the MLWAudio sounds.
But what is the base DLC for the loco? Is it the Saluda or the Southern?

Thanks a lot for your kind words.
This is based on the SOU retro pack. I have not checked whether the model is the same as the Saluda's model, but it should be very similar.
I plan to darken Saluda's SD40-2 NS, too, but not in a complete clean version (like the SOU).
I am not sure whether I will do the SD40-2 with the regular cab as you can use the JR SD40-2 NS or one of these repaints on JR-basis:
NS OLS :
https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/ ... ver-sd40-2
https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/ ... on-pack-v1
SOU and NS repaints:

Second part of this project will be a cleaner cab - I hope that will not be so time consuming like these bogies as I am eager to continue on the HiLine with Indobell (and extension, but that will be a little secret ... )

I believe it can be the same model as Saluda. I will take a look at these links as soon as I can.
Thank you.

As a (sometimes closet) Southern Railway enthusiast you so much for making these fine liveries, that I feel more accurately represent the condition Southern kept their units in, not the scuffed up grey livery.

I have been meaning to make a cleaned up skin of the GP35 and a TAG GP18, and do something similar; but this looks just lovely, and I salute your attention to detail in altering the cab insides too.

A cleaner cab for the SD40-2 is now finished.
Preview of the control stand for the SOU (not finished):

The train brake will be very special !

F7 is now dark, too as all other locos from the Saluda-route and the SOUretroPack, see 3rd picture.
I have done 2 variations of the the SOU SD40-2 (one with white number board and one weathered), each with extra cabs.
