Announcement regarding Dovetail Live Forums

Unread postby ElphabaWS » Thu Feb 16, 2023 4:35 pm

The announcement at Dovetail Live's Train Simulator Classic forum as linked below is worth noting.

The environment at DTL forums, due to the behavior of a quite small handful of individuals, has, over the past year in particular, devolved into something that is neither constructive or reflective of the collaborative and welcoming spirit of our community as a whole, thus this announcement:

Most of the Dovetail live forums are tedious at best and rarely constructive in my experience. Just mainly people talking at each other instead of talking to each other.

Good to see and hopefully the worst of the keyboard warriors eventually get booted.

It’s ok to be disappointed, or disagree with someone, or have constructive criticism, but often the poison that gets spewed in forums is just over the top and I can pretty much guarantee those people would not be so brave face to face.

The really sad thing is some are so poorly educated in any social graces that they don't even realize how rude and hurtful they are being in some of these posts. When confronted they want to argue instead of just taking a little advice.

It speaks to a much larger cultural issue. Actually several of them.

The link as posted takes one to the February 16, 2023 statement. The point is not the date of the announcement in any case, but rather the increasingly inhospitable nature of the environment at DTL.

When I first clicked on that link it did say August 2020 but now when I click on it it says February 16 2023. I have been on the firing line of some of these nasty comments one of these I reported and the person got banned for 1 week and another that I reported DTG must have spoken to him as they don't seem to post so much with unruly comments.

I'd noticed. Currently they're arguing about the weather!

This isn't particularly unique to DTL but forums tend to be the places for keyboard warriors. Although among this community DTL has for a while at least among my circle had a iffy reputation for sometime of where the worst trolls gather. Makes me apprehensive to join forums and get sucked into the void.
