Graphics Issues On New Computer

Hello Friends,
Even though this is the first time I have posted on the forum, I consider all of you friends because of the excellent tips and tricks I have learned from this forum. I want to say a big thank you to all of you who provide the good answers people need to enjoy the simulator.

I just bought a new computer rig after ten years. I had a reasonably fast computer that provided a good simulation over the years, but I decided to step it up with the new one.

Here are the specs on both:
Old Computer System Custom Built
Windows 7 Home 64 Bit Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 870 @ 2.93GHz 16.0 GB RAM,
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650, ASUS VH222H-P - LCD monitor - Full HD (1080p) - 21.5" Refresh Rate 75HzGraphics

New Computer System
ASUS G15CK, Intel Core i7-10700KF, GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, 48GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 10 Home, G15CK-BS764, ASUS VG249Q Gaming Monitor W-LED 23.8” 1920x1080 Refresh Rate144Hz


I have been getting some great frame rates in comparison to my old rig. The old rig would give me 15-20 in scenery/asset dense areas and 40-70 in open territory. I have 30-70 in dense areas and 140-150 in open areas with the new monster. I have all the sliders maxed out on the in game graphics and I am running Anti Aliasing setting FXAA + 8 x MSAA and have also tried other settings on that menu. I picked that because of the highest number, in my way of guessing.

Performance wise I have no complaints.... great frame rates, smooth quality of motion, distant scenery population, etc, etc. The only issue I am experiencing is what I would describe as a focal issue. Often the periphery of the monito is out of focus significantly. Sometimes it is the center of the monitor that blips out of focus.

Questions:
Is this a refresh rate issue with the monitor or a result of my intense high settings?
Is it a scaling issue?
Could it be and Nvidia Software issue? I have that set to allow the simulator to control aspects of the 3D settings.

I will post some example images when the moderators approve of my post and adjust the settings. I look forward to sharing some images of the route I am creating in the simulator also.

Thanks for the welcome and I'm ready to begin posting some pics of my issue with the new computer rig and also to share my effort to create a route with folks. I'm am creating the area around Chattanooga and Cowan Tennessee on the current CSX and former Louisville and Nashville/Nashville Chattanooga & St. Louis line to Nashville. It features the Cowan Pusher District where trains use helpers to climb the 2% grades up and through the Cumberland Mountain Tunnel. I'm also including the Tracy City Branch which was known as the "Mountain Goat" line. This coal feeding branch had close to 3% grades and really moved the coal in the past days.

I have noticed when I have 'Depth of Field' enabled in the Advanced Graphics Settings panel I see something like what you describe. Shifting the camera seems to correct the focus, but other times it gets it wrong. I have never found a solution except to disable this option.

I second Wayne. Had the same issue until I disabled depth of field.

Success!! Thank you Wayne and JohnS .......Problem solved!! I unchecked depth of field and it cured the issue. I'll run a complete scenario tonight and make sure there are no other issues, but good for now! Thank you so much. For the benefit of the post, I will still post some pictures for others to reference. Checking back to my original installation on the Win7 computer I had that box unchecked. With the new rig I was trying to max out all the settings.

There is no doubt that heavily laden scenery affects the graphics performance. I enjoy making the route look as real world as possible while maintaining performance, which is what drove me to the higher performing computer.

I was unfamiliar with RW Enhancer until I began to research the issue I was having. I will be downloading that if it makes the sim look better. I welcome all suggestions and constructive criticism. I very much appreciate this community.

To add if you want a freeware alternative, you can use reshade, or you can even combine both. Here are some screenshots using AlpenFreight's preset, which is what I use. (Also available here in the forum at viewtopic.php?f=30&t=17378)
