You have done an amazing job on the route! Glad to hear it's almost complete.

I'm glad you guys are still following along on my adventure, or at times, my misadventure.

I completed the connection on Union Pacific's Powder River Division yesterday and now have a couple of crossovers to put in and some sidings at Lusk, Wy. Then on to smoothing all the grade changes on the division and placing signals and track markers. So far the distant terrain function I ran last week has resolved all the jagged edges on the horizon that have been darkening my mood the last year - there was no way to hide them since it's just grasslands out to the horizon along much of the route.

With the track work being almost done I think I'll have a go, this year, at trying to learn blender in order to create the center pivot irrigation fields that are prevalent along the eastern stretches of the route and if that works out then I can think about going on to creating the cylindrical coal towers for the mines and some of the buildings. Circular fields in first priority though since I can imagine a terrain conforming decal (if decal is the right word) saving me hundreds of hours of terrain painting.

Additionally EMDSD90MAC made a pivot irrigation model that is for the MRL however I'm sure he would share it with you if you contact him. It can be any length you need.

I had forgotten all about the pivot irrigation asset that Steve had done for the MRL. What I did have a vague memory of was the circular fields. I had done a search on that and found out that there was no asset but that you had suggested in a thread that one be made which prompted me to write about making one in Blender... if I can ever wrap my head around asset creation.

Two steps forward, one step back. While smoothing all the grade changes on the Powder River Division there is one spot where the track went a bit wonky after trying to smooth it and I'll probably wind up cutting out 200 meters and relaying it. No idea why that happens and luckily it has only happened twice on the PRB and was very localized. Happened once on Cajon and that was heart stopping - lifted 4 or 5 miles of track about 10 feet in one direction and buried 2 or 3 miles of track in the other direction - had to restore from a backup to fix that one.

Had that happen to me a few times before I did something that worked. If I have a section of track that I have to lift or sink, I go a good distance down both ends of the repair area and break the track and weld it back after the repair. That way no chance of lifting or sinking miles of track.

Great progress by the way. Look forward to more pics.

Cutting to isolate the section of track being worked on is probably the best way to do it. I do forget sometimes though and as long as I have done a save just before something goes wrong then I just kill the program without saving and re-launch it. Thankfully it happens very rarely.
