Hi Buzz,
I just saw the thread here for the Beth Gons, and felt like I should make a comment. Back in the years 1995-2001, I worked as a travelling retail services representative. From my home in Windber, PA to stores that I serviced in Indiana, Altoona, State College, Clearfield, St. Mary's, and other small towns in southwest central PA, I passed many trains full of these and other types of cars. Your work is spot on! Travelling west through Johnstown on PA Rte.403, I passed the Johnstown America/Freightcar America plant where these cars came out as finished products. Unfortunately, this was before I became immersed in DTG's simulator, so I didn't think to take pictures. Often I thought about how the morning or evening sunlight caught the sides of these cars and there were days I needed sunglasses to see without squinting. A cut of 20-30 of these fresh out of the shops reflecting the sunlight was amazing. The Conemaugh and Blacklick switchers that pulled these cars out usually pulled no more than 10 cars at a time with 5 being the most common amount. The sidings were on the other side of the highway less than a mile from the Dornick Point Sewage treatment plant. The smell wasn't pleasant on the best of days, but could you imagine waiting on a string of 20 or more to slowly cross the road on a hot summer day. Your paint jobs look like the cars have been sitting out a week or two, waiting to be gathered for transport.
For anyone interested in putting the shop in a route, check out a streetside map of Johnstown, PA Route 403 between Doris and Mage streets. Keep up the fantastic work you're doing, Buzz!
