Realism vs accuracy

Unread postby SAR704 » Fri Aug 17, 2018 11:27 am

I am currently working on a railbus which is intended to be wheelchair accessible (with a foldout ramp). Basically I need to have axles at the same height as the actual wheels on the bus. The image I've attached shows this, but I am not highly familiar with railcar bogies, or railbus designs.

But nonetheless, is it possible to get this chassis on track virtually as it is, with the only modifications being those to the wheels? I want to this vehicle to be represented (possibly hauling a few very light freight wagons) as it looks. I won't say what bus type it is, the internet will provide this info, but it's basically just something I'm doing for the enjoyment of seeing such a chassis given this role. It will be useful for inspecting the Wanbi to Yinkanie line, albeit rather slow.

This is the actual bus type I intend to adapt into TS. It runs on tyres obviously, and it's CNG powered. I know the latter isn't an option, but editing the files to reflect it's acceleration isn't out of the question. It has a 5 speed automatic gearbox, and reaches top gear at just under 60kph (around 37MPH). Max speed is 100kph (62MPH).

Here is the model as it stands at the moment, with the wheels visible. Very early stages.

Sorry if the vehicle is a bit of an eyesore :D .

You'll need to add some kind of coupler but yes you can add it as it is with just rail wheels.
You can litrally build anything you want as long as the parts are named correctly for the blueprint.
Have a look at my frontrunners bin file and you'll see how i set up a twin axle wagon.

Thanks for providing some info to a rolling stock newbie such as myself.

I will definitely add a front and rear coupler. I didn't initially think of this, but it will most certainly enhance the look in my opinion. Many pieces of the puzzle still to go!

And I need to ask something. Is it possible to have tinted windows in TS? Having not fiddled with the complexities of rollingstock before, I am not currently aware of whether or not it's possible.

I managed to get a slight tint on a repainted tunnel motor.
I was just trying to soot up the windows but could not get it very dark.
I just played with the texture and the alpha files in photoshop the same way you would for a repaint.
It was a while ago but i seem to remember that i fully blacked out everything but the shader wont allow it to go too dark.
One of the proper repainters might know a better way of doing it.
