I'm mostly hoping that they can be easily repainted. *cough*SantaFe*cough*

I have other projects, and Kevin has the AC44 as primary focus.

There's too many things wrong with it that I'd want to change with child objects, and some of those things can't be covered up, or hidden by nodes such as the incorrect horns on the majority of them, and wrong bell placement.

Take your time.

You mean their all of one GP40 they had?

Would make our job easier if they did some semblance of prototype research other than paint on these things so I didn't have to make child objects.

Horns, bells, battery box covers, using headlight assemblies instead of an appropriate mars or gyralight on the WP and DRGW respectively, ditchlights on a DRGW model where other locomotives they produced don't have them therefore throwing era specifics right out the window.

Maybe a late 90's one,

But there should have been a version without the ditchlights Imho

Lets also imagine if this was converted into TS2018:

That's the problem, it represents a 90s one, while the rest of the DRGW stock they've made does not. Era clash.

All this rivet counting and hand wringing is making my head hurt but I suppose it's fun for some. !**conf**!

It's not that it's fun for me. I hold myself and Kevin to a high standard, and a company that has a way higher budget than we do by all means has no excuse not to do some research and planning.

Remember it´s Reppo who is doing this, as DTG is only the producer and seller.

As the contractor, they should have provided reference material for Ricardo to work with, and supported the development of the models with in house critique to ensure that the product is accurate.

That's part of the whole quality in Quality Assurance.

They just said "locomotive development support from Reppo." That might mean the modelling and such was done in house by DTG, but Reppo did the scripting and the other behind the scenes work. Regardless, over the years we have all seen how big of a joke "Quality Assurance" is at DTG.

Same 2 guys in the cab all the time too and and I don't believe they are in era specific clothing either (well, only one era...) - no realism at all. DTG should give up and stick to what they know best - fishing - is that a salmon or a rainbow trout that just leapt?

Seriously - look back to the start of Rail Simulator when there were only a few engines available - who would have predicted Kuju>RSC>DTG morphing the sim to where we can complain about horns, bells, battery box covers, headlight assemblies, ditchlights etc...I am just happy they are still here and are still producing rubbish that we are forced to buy and can complain about.

Personally - I know the GP40-2s won't be totally accurate, totally era specific in detail etc. but I can live with that as I end up with a loco roster that is varied and fun. This pack is a welcome return to the early value days of multiple liveries.

And don't forget, era specicifity applies to routes too, infrastructure, track layout, lineside buildings, cars, trucks (and people - not just those two guys in every cab) etc. In fact, the entire hobby is one big compromise - but not a bad one, and the beauty is, if you want to run a Central Pacific woodfired 4-4-0 alongside that good looking (but probably inaccurate) WP GP40-2 you can get away with it in the privacy of your own home.

Looking forward to the pack - thanks DTG.
