Nameplate Textures?

Unread postby 18potterfan » Mon Dec 04, 2017 10:03 pm

I'm having trouble with the nameplate textures on some of the rollingstock and engines that I'm trying to repaint. For example, I was going to try making a Santa Fe hiLevel repaint of the superliner stock but the "amtrak" and the "superliner" logos are textures that when I tried painting them different ways, they still showed up. So if anyone knows a way to troubleshoot getting rid of those layers possibly? I don't mind typing the names directly on the repaint, but if there's an easy way to change the nameplate textures to something different, that would be super helpful. I'm trying to make reskins and every time I come across a nameplate thingy I always get discouraged and put it on hold.

The nameplates are probably "Decal" child objects. If so, you will edit the main texture and the alpha channel. It is possible with some models to make the alpha channel transparent and edit the body directly. I would have to examine the model's texture files to be more specific.

Like Harry Adkins described, you can edit the decal texture in your painting program by making it transparent. When you open your texture after saving, the alpha layer should appear black. If so, continue to save the texture in the correct format and import.

Hopefully this helps.

So I got the decal texture open in photoshop and I found the Alhpa channel. I tried moving what was there out of the way and putting other text down but that didn't work. How would I go about making the alpha channel invisible?

I'm working with the freeware heavyweights from www.golden-age-rails.com By the way. The NYC/B&A ones.

To make the alpha channel invisible, cover the area you want with black 0-0-0.
