Ever so slow

Unread postby SMMDigital » Wed Jun 15, 2011 10:01 am

Folks, i'm having a problem with the route i'm building. It is going soooooooo slowly, and I cannot figure out why.

Image

I work on the route every day.

Image

But it's like I never get anything done.

Image

6 months it has taken me to go 10 miles.

Image

As close as I can figure it, one of the assets on the route is taking an extraordinary amount of time to place.

Image

I just haven't figured out which one it is.

Image

Perhaps RSC would liike to help us poor route builders out by releasing an oft talked about but as-yet vaporware update that might alleviate this problem???

You need to hire Johnny Appleseed to help out. !*hp*!
If God had intended for man to fly, He wouldn't have given us the railroads.

It's defintely all your trees. !*hp*!
I agree. I also need the feature to quickly place trees now.

But it looks awesome how dense they stand. Looks like a real forest.
All the shots are awesome, just look at the detail everywhere. !!*ok*!! !*brav*!

Planting trees on mountains is so slow that I have stopped, waiting for the new tool. Man, I hope it works!!!

Same here. IF I were going to use individual trees, I would use the KRS tree tool to do it. I think it would be faster to make a script and cut down the trees I don't want than to plant them all manually. Better yet, use the terrain texture feature of KRS and pre-paint the landscape with a certain texture only where I want trees. The problem with all this however, is that I find 1000's of individual trees to be a frame-rate killer.

I LOVE seeing those hills covered with trees.... those screenies remind me how badly I want to cover the COA with trees. But I decided it just isn't practical/efficient in RW2. So I decided to limit my foliage to the first 200 yards and "pretend" the rest.

I was gonna say, that many tress has got to kill the frame rate.

But, I do love that neat little A/C unit next to the brick house! Sweet! !!*ok*!!

My guess is they are going to release the BIG update with the NEC route.

what ive been doing with trees is, I plant them first on my route then track. because i use the copy paste method by selecting a few random assortments of trees and start applying them like they are 1 asset(which they are not considered unfortunetly. Then i draw a circle around them and hit the J key. in fact in about 10 mins the area goes from having 0 assets to 1,000 just on trees alone. then theres not much room for anything else. the trees are 50% of the detail of the route and are so important.

point: we really need the block assets

All of the trees you see in the mountainous / hilly areas are the RSC Oak blocks. Putting each tree individually would kill the program as soon as the train crossed into the forested tile. Rotating and tilting the oak blocks onto the hillsides is the time consuming part. Also, this method doesn't work close up to the tracks because you could tell that the trees are leaning to the side.

Man, I'm doing a mountain route as well, and TBH, I'm not even touching the trees until RSC has come out with the block asset tool. That'd just be a nightmare to work on.

I've thought about shelving this route as well and waiting on the block asset placement combubulator device. RSC though, has an annoying habit of "showcasing" stuff that either takes a year to appear or never actually materializes. If you stop and wait for it, you may never finish your project.

Well luckily for me, my pace is slow enough that it may actually come around when I do get to the trees. Right now I'm working on tracks only.

you may be right, i will still work on mine at a snails pace and see what materializes in July. if no blocks by then I might just be moving on anyway at that point.

prepare for the worst, hope for the best!

I have been modifying a copy of the NSAND to add scenery south to Atlanta. Just something to do while waiting for the next update. Using the Oak Forest blocks for mid range scenery. Very time consuming and a problem on slopes. Have also added signals and bridges. Worse yet is terrain painting for track sub roadbed and rock in cuts. I did find that the SAD folage pack is worth the wait at UK train sim, especially the grasses and weeds. Have about 150 hours into this so far and not nearly the detail of the original. But it does make the trip to Atlanta more enjoyable and improves my skills.
