Emails anyone ?

Emails anyone ?

Postby trev123 » Tue Mar 21, 2017 3:37 pm

Did anyone get 3 emails from DTG about what they are doing to TSW to improve it. If not I can post them here.

I got one too because I reported something to their Customer Feedback.

This thread was included about optimisation: http://steamcommunity.com/app/530070/discussions/0/133259956015949921/

Do all that and it looks just like TS2017.

I very much doubt it. I'm running it at those settings and it looks far better than TS2017.

Not to put too fine a point on it but the beauty is in the eye of the beholder but until I get some decent frame rates everything else means nothing to me. I went I explored and it's now in the can until I can see some decent performance. I get well over 100 fps out in the country on the MRL and at least 60 in most towns and never less than 35 on minerman's beautiful route in spite of having a 'commercial' gpu. Dropping down to 16fps in spots is just not acceptable. I have it and I stay ever optimistic.

Well, it's good to see that they're responding to the criticisms. It bugs me though when they say things like they're "still working hard to understand the full cause of the performance issues being reported." You could see the framerate problems on their own promotional videos. I don't think there's some secret underlying problem that's causing the game to be so demanding. They just went all out with asset detail and the sim pays the price as a result. It's not rocket science as to how they can improve framerates. The only problem is it requires them cutting back on stuff like fully detailed engine rooms and stuff like that, and nobody's going to be happy with a downgrade now that they've seen the detail.

I'm with Buzz though, I much, MUCH prefer framerate over hyper detail.

I don't think it's DTG's choice of "asset detail"

Grand Theft Auto and other games look great, but don't give the CPU/GPU a heart attack while doing it.
It is possible to have great looking graphics without it taking down FPS to such a low.
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't TSW only use one core of the CPU regardless of how many there may be? If that is the case then wouldn't Dovetail's solution to the FPS problems be to simply allow the game to use multiple cores?

Yes it is, but it's done with extremely aggressive LoD systems. Additionally, despite what the general scene may look like, GTA V doesn't actually have the extreme poly counts you might expect. Most of the models are actually pretty low-fi. One locomotive in TSW probably has more polys than 50 cars on screen at once in GTA.

All my CPUs are in use while it is running. Only at about 20% registering on each one.

Just curious, if you take that same situation with 20% on each CPU core, what happens if you change the shadows and effects sliders down to Off and post processing to Low?

Don't know, all my settings are maxed out. And using TAA. Going to bed now might try tomorrow. Where I got 38-40 I now have 50-54 fps. I ran the whole route and had several AI. When AIs were near I would drop to 28-30. After it was gone and out of sight, fps would go back up. In a few areas where the trees are really dense it bounced from 48 to 38. I never saw a red value and did before I made this last change with DSR.
