I'm with Jerry however after being criticized for appearing to be negative I have been silent. I do have a opinion as a route builder and a re-painter just my opinion is that if we can't modify or add to this new platform it will have little interest to me no matter how spiffy the graphics are and as far as better physics several of out talented members have made mods that make TS2017 way realistic for someone who has never driven nor ever will drive a real train. Have fun guys and I look forward to listening to how you like the new sim.

Kevin and I haven't heard a single word back from them regarding things as simple as "hey, what materials should we be using." Or anything regarding content creation (the GMDD SD40-2) so he's basically had to back door UE4 in his own developers copy, and the beta that was available as much as he could so we could have content essentially ready to import to the game.

Scripting and simulation? Nothing either.

Honestly it's a bad call on their part to leave 3rd party partners in the dark about development, because we're the people that know the most about the frustrations of developing something as 100% realistic as possible and working around their goofs. That, and arguably 3rd parties make DLC that fills the volume their in house devs don't sustain, or find profitable to venture in.

It isn't just us, it's Oovee and other UK devs too.

Well I wasn't in the BETA, but at 20% off I took the plunge today and bought it. I know there is no editor yet and there are still questions left in general. But I've been impressed with what they have done so far and what they say they have planned for the future. That is why I made a $32 investment on what has been done and hopefully to help fund what could be. I certainly think this is a much safer bet than the poor suckers who preordered T:ANE.

But after this initial purchase, I'll be more mindful of the progress made in future DLC and that of the sim itself. Then I'll decide if it's worth future investment. Until then.....I consider this a benefit of the doubt, leap of faith purchase. Hopefully they won't completely disappoint me.

I may not play this at launch if I don't get my laptop back from repair in time. I shipped it overnight yesterday due to a single line of red and blue stuck pixels that appeared all of a sudden. It's usually the most noticeable when the background is black. So hopefully they swap out the display and I'll be okay. Even though I'm still in the initial 90 days warranty period, I'm glad I purchased the 3 year warranty for future piece of mind. The $300 price break on the laptop easily paid for the extended warranty. !!*ok*!!

I think DTG themselves doesn't know how to do some of these things properly yet. Has there ever been an ambitious complete railroad simulation done before in UE4?

Then I suppose there could be UE4 licensing fee issues that haven't been fully resolved yet. If you use DTG's content creator tools to create commercial DLC, who is going to take what cut and when?

I preordered too, after all it isn't more expensive than a nice pizza and a couple of beers.
But if the release version doesn't perform on my I6700 1080GT rig, it will be returned straight back. By the time of 2017 X-mas sale, most of the teething troubles should have been solved and perhaps some other routes and trains made available.
I don't think the Cumberland to nowhere and back will hold my interest for long.

I pre-ordered TSW as well and sure hope they add more routes and locomotives in the future!

Interesting. Already discounts are appearing from DTG's

US Gamersgate also has it @ $26.99: https://www.gamersgate.com/DD-TRAIN-SIM ... heavy-haul

Also believe we have the answer to many questions about TS20xx versus TSW with this quote -

“Train Simulator is more of a model railway or hobby experience whereas Train Sim World has the player represented as a virtual character that can interact with the world.”

Now we know TSW is more akin to a FPS (scenarios, accomplishments, badges, etc) while TS20xx is the train simulator the community is more accustomed to (mods, repaints, reskins, etc)

Wow, just popped in, couple of locked threads, wild views and lots of second guessing...
:)

Release day is almost upon us...

Ok, I don't have a crystal ball but...

Will it be like RS/RW/TSXXXX... probably not that kinda evolved organically and while we know the launch was not so clean back in 2007 we (RSDL/RSC/DTG or whatever we call ourselves now) stuck with it and supported it for a decade... and beyond!
as did you guys... high 5's all round for those that enjoy, play, talk, share, and support the Sim.

There is a plan and the plan is to give our Simmers/gamers/users/fans/artists/techies and designers a world to explore, create and share for many years to come, it just may be slightly different but the same, we shall see.
I'm pretty sure that in 2027 (as long as this body holds out, I will be here pointing to this very post...
just saying

:)

d

Edit: The train Simulator hobby is in safe hands..because it is our hobby too.

Are these deals legit? One often hears some China based 'retailers' generate their own Steam keys and that you may end up buying a key that has already been activated ...

Can't speak for them all but I've used Gamersgate for many years now, they are legit.

Don't worry, we'll have audio packs or entire locomotive replacements available eventually for those who had an aneurysm like I did after seeing that.

Regards future DLC for TSW. Quote by DTG from TrainSimulator.com "Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul and the technology it is built upon is effectively the base platform for all future content and the entry point for what will evolve to become Train Sim World. We are planning to bring routes and locos from a variety of different territories, including the UK and Germany and already have some incredible add-ons in development which we will talk about at a later date."
