Changing The Auto Numbering

Unread postby ET44C4 » Fri Feb 10, 2017 2:20 pm

Is there a way to change the font, color, size, and location of the auto numbering? If so, can someone please let me know how?

Edit: I see the folder "Numbers" in "Railvehicles" and there is all ten numbers in there. I don't want to change anything if it's going to change every number on every locomotive. Can someone please tell me how to change all ten numbers and use them on one repaint?

You can change the font, color and to some degree the size (as long as you stay in the texture palate) however the location is fixed in the model.

Each number if you look in the texture folder has it's own file. Just like everything else, export it to your editor. In a lot of these they will just look like a blank sheet of one color until you open them in DXTBmp where you will find the number on the alpha layer. There is no consistency in how people did this so you'll have to kind of puzzle it out about how to get what you want but anything that will fit on the template can be shown. Fiddle with any one number that is on your loco so you can see if what you're doing looks OK to save a lot of time before you do all the numbers.

The Alco S2 only has four number files: primarynumber_0, 1, 2, and 3. Not sure if when I paint them, they will change all the numbers on the locomotive or not. !*don-know!*

Those files with "primarynumber" in the name are special textures that tell TS which surfaces in the model are to be treated as auto-numbers (and the primary number itself indicates the mapping to a position in the auto-numbering field that you can alter in the scenario editor). You don't change those textures. Instead, you need to edit another set of textures (there would normally be at least 10 of them, but there can be more when the autonumbering allows for other characters such as letters, dashes and spaces) that are the characters you see. You can find out what those texture files are by looking inside the "Named Texture Set Blueprint" (each texture is referenced in a "Texture Entry".

I found the numbers in the "Railvehicles" folder. Is there a way to possibly change those and let then be on only one repaint? I see there is a "WP" folder with it's own textures inside. If I make another folder, change the number textures, edit the .bin files (both locomotive and numbers), and then put in what numbers I want to be shown, will it work?

Yeah do something like this and then call out the new numbers folder in your engine bin folder.

Just remember you have to call out your new folder whatever you call it and you also have to rename all the texture names in the numbers bin file, not the textures themselves but the bin so it knows where to look for your new textures.

Right, okay. Thanks for letting me know.

Okay so I opened the number texture by loading the alpha layer into my editor. I see (for number "1") a number eleven "11" on the template. Do I place two "1"s to make an "11"? Sorry if this sounds confusing. *!lol!*

I guess I should ask about how to save when doing the .dds texture. Do I import the alpha and keep the original texture with the alpha being the only thing changed?

Sorry for all my responses, but I have figured out how to at least repaint the numbers and get them on my repaint. Thanks to everyone who led me in the right direction.
