Did Coal Hoppers Finally get Fixed?(No)

Unread postby Ericmopar » Mon Aug 22, 2016 11:42 pm

I'm asking if the coal hoppers got fixed, because I'm suddenly having a pleasant experience while driving them on Donner.
It used to be, I could take a 70 car empty train up a 2% grade with only 2 SD40s. The train would practically coast up a grade like that.
Now I need 3 SD40s and a GP9 shoving on the rear of a 80 car train of empty coal cars. Even then I frequently slow to about 17mph on the steeper sections.
I checked to make sure I hadn't modded their mass'.

I've now discovered the Cajon Pass container cars don't wildly lean anymore like they used to.
Since I've only recently discovered these things I couldn't say why they work properly for me now.

That sounds great. Which coal hoppers are we talking about here?

Eric:

What's the mass on your DP coal hoppers? I modified mine, and have a mass of 91, which represents a loaded coal car.

I'm trying to run your scenario "Climbing the West Slope" from the workshop, and can't get the train started.

With a mass of 91 you wouldn't get it going with just the engines in the scenario. A person would need about 3 on the front, 4 or 5 about 20-25 back and another 3 or 4 about 15 from the end. (Rough estimate) About 12-13 SD40s in total. That would be close to prototype.
I used empties and I double checked, the mass number is 27.4, but mine are now acting their weight, with them empty. I haven't tried Loaded yet.
I guess I'll have to make up a train in one of my Donner routes in free roam.
Keep in mind that Quick Drive trains are no longer loaded. They used to be loaded by default but now run unloaded.

I haven't made up a coal train empty or loaded in ages, maybe I'm thinking of the loaded trains being messed up.... !*don-know!*

They didn't fix anything...
I just made up a loaded 65 car unit coal train, out of Donner Pass coal gondolas and got the usual results. Even loaded the train will fly up a 2.3% grade with only 5 SD40s.
The loaded open top hopper and gondola physics are still busted.
I just remembered that's why I choose other types like boxcars, tankers and autoracks for heavy trains.

That would be appreciated Derek. The open top cars in all or most of the North American DLC has been this way for years.
It affects our open top Coal Gondolas/Hoppers and low side gondolas as well.
It isn't a problem when they are empty. When empty they behave the way they are supposed too.
Because it also affects third party cars as well, I've always suspected it might be a core game issue for those types of cars/wagons. LOL

Thank You, Eric.
