Springfield: What happened to the RS3?

Unread postby ChrisNH » Tue Aug 30, 2016 7:49 am

I noticed in the manual there is no RS3? I am waiting for the upgrade so can't open up the steam version. Is it (and it's scenarios) no longer included?

What happened to that? It was the loco I was most looking forward to driving in the new route. Tired of EMD stuff.

Appreciate the work on the VNHRR just bummed one of my favorites may not be in it..

Hi Chris,

The RS3 is no longer part of the Springfield Line, most of its scenarios have been modified to use another loco (GP9 or S-2).

The RS-3 will return as a new seperate item soon, but as an owner of the previous version of the route you can of course keep it!

Cheers

You can swap it back in the new scenarios using RW-Tools or the TS2016 scenario editor.

Ahh, DLC.. I have mixed feelings on that change but certainly I can use RW_Tools to swap it in.

THanks

I don't know what your mixed feeling are about since if you have version 2 you already have it.

Edit:

THe TLDR:

Happy we might get a more detailed RS3 as DLC. Not happy because only new loco is S2 (still alco though, great to have!) that users are getting even if I have it (work to put it in scenarios, sometimes compatibility problems). Appreciate the route being made, thanks guys!

Hello, Michael,

I've read that VNHRR v2 should be deleted before installing v3; won't doing so delete the RS-3 included in v2 as well?

If either of you bothered to go look you would see that the RS-3 is from Brikits and the guys just did a repaint for the existing one. This is in the Brikit folder so would not be affected by deleting version2. The only thing you might lose is the preload feature. Since Richard doesn't sell through DTG that's probably why it was not included. To make a long story even longer if you clone the route it should all be still there in the preload I would think even though I haven't tested this yet.

It was in the V1 and V2 payware, so I don't see how that would make me think it would not also be included in v3 payware regardless of what folder it was in. I guess I am just not hip to the train sim biz.

Good info, even if every post has a crusty bit at the start !!jabber!!

I apologize if I come off sounding crusty however you are complaining about not getting something you already have and won't lose in the update. The only people that won't have it are those that haven't supported the project while it was being developed all these years.

How delightful to know everything! However, if "Richard doesn't sell through DTG," how are they going to bring out an RS-3 in the appropriate livery later? Or is that just smoke and mirrors as well?

All we know is this short sentence from GreatNortherner: "The RS-3 will return as a new seperate item soon".

Well Tom I suppose they could either get a license from Richard or design a brand new one from scratch. How's that sound for solutions?

Okay by me -- let's just wait and see. I agree with others that this engine is certainly a boon for the VNHRR route.
