NKP Berkshire Texture Question

Unread postby Railfan587 » Sat May 28, 2016 2:38 pm

Does anyone happen to know which texture file is for the number plate under the headlight? The NKP had white trim added around this number plate in the late 40s. NKP 765 had this trim in her first excursion career, and I saw a recent picture from FWRHS that shows that they've added the trim for this year.

I moved all of the textures to see if I could get a "missing texture" message on the number plate, but I got a "missing texture" message everywhere but the number plate.

I think the number plate is a child object, but I could be wrong.

But even so it should have a texture.

Found it. It's one of the G-TraX/Trains/RailVehicles/Global/Textures files.

The file for the number board is gx_patches01. But, I found out that the file is shared with other parts of the locomotive, like the piping. How else can I paint the number board? Would a child object be an option?

You say it's there but there are no numbers there so it's not there.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand. The picture that I posted earlier has all of the textures in the Global folder removed. I later put back all of textures to see exactly which texture the number plate used. The texture turned out to be gx_patches01. I then color coded different sections of the gx_patches01 texture to find out which section was for the number plate. I found out that the number plate uses the section circled here:

This section also is used by the piping on the boiler.

The background texture is there but whatever generates the numbers is not there.

I'm trying to repaint the background texture. I'm not having a problem with the numbers. What I'm trying to do is add the white trim around the front number plate that 765 has in this picture from 1987: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3290504
When the 765 was overhauled in 2005, FWRHS removed the white lining from the front number plate to make it look like how it did when it was built by Lima. 765 kept this look until last year.

This year, FWRHS added the white lining on the front number board because they're changing the 765 to her late 40s-early 50s appearance. https://www.facebook.com/fortwaynerailr ... 389942883/

Am I the only one who can't believe how many times the 765 has changed in appearance?

I know right. The white-trimmed front number plate is just the tip of the iceberg. My goal is to make as many of 765's different appearances as possible. Personally, the look with the white-trimmed front number plate is my favorite of 765's different appearances, with or without the MARS light.

Speaking of the mars light, is 765 going to be wearing that for the Galesburg Zephyr?

Bummer. I wonder when they'll have to use it.

Wait. If 765's running on Metra's lines, maybe we all could do the Varsity excursion on the racetrack. !!det!!
