Vista to Win 7

Unread postby buzz456 » Sun May 08, 2011 12:19 pm

Anybody have any issues with existing RW if I decide to get rid of Vista and go to Win 7? I don't want to screw this up. It is about the only thing on this computer that means anything. !*don-know!*

Going to Win 7 from Vista *should* work fine. From XP to 7 is a complete reinstall.

BUT, I would advise to do a backup of your "steamapps" folder and your Documents folder, just in case. Presuming you made a copy of all the add on's to your Documents folder.

Did the same thing a year or so ago from Vista 32bit to Win 7 64bit with =no issues. Only difference was that RW ran a bit better.

I just installed Steam, re downloaded a new base, renamed it and copied in my old install. I needed to log into steam to get it all running first

I wish someone would have warned me about the disabling of Windows Defender. That was a booger. Of course I made the mistake of trying to find out something intelligent from Microsoft.
I should know by now. Finally figured it out with some help from reading blogs online. Installing now.

I HATE MICROSOFT I HATE MICROSOFT!!!!!!!! After hours and hours of this dern thing running the upgrade it gets stuck at 62%. Looking this up on the good old internet I see a fix from Microsoft if this happens. If they know this happens why don't they build a FIX INTO THE UPGRADE SO THIS DOESN'T"T HAPPEN? The only good thing about this is it has driven me to drink. !*not-ok*!

OS upgrades can sometimes be problematic. Sometimes it's best to just reformat the hard drive and start from scratch with a new OS install.
Of course it should go without saying that it is necessary to back up anything that you don't want to lose.

You can do a ( fairly ) clean install without reformatting, just by installing it into \Win7 ( for instance ) instead of \Windows.
