ps: hey Mike, although not prototypical, you should also make one with a standard US coupler, not just a link and pin version (you would probably sell more copies, as it would appeal to more people.)

That's a fascinating photo! There are a lot of revision notes on the mechanical drawings but I had no idea that the initial versions were so radically different! Personally, I like the changes they made. I assume they were done to make it closer to the original, maybe when new photographic references came to light.

That's a good idea about the option of a buckeye coupler. I'll probably take you up on that.

Another thought I had was about the livery. The very fancy filigree work and pictures that adorn Jupiter and 119 were done by a Disney artist and I'm not sure yet if I can reproduce them (or if I'm allowed to reproduce them). So I'm pondering the idea of doing my own artwork in the style of the original, but without copying it exactly. Indeed, there's plenty of scope for doing a variety of liveries and styles of finish that were typical of the late 19th century.

Ah, I thought so! The drawings show an oil burner located in the ash pan and a tank hidden in the tender. Curiously though, in photos I've seen of Jupiter's cab, I can't find the firing handle (oil regulator), whereas in photos of Leviathan (built, by David Kloke's company, using the same plans) the firing handle is in plain sight to the left of the throttle. That had me puzzled.

i hope they don't make some poor guy put his hand in the firebox to reach the oil regulator! !*lho*!

Fantastic information!

There's even a link with Scotland ...

Jupiter was built by the Schenectady Locomotive Works of New York State, whose Scottish management employed the blue and crimson colors of Scotland's Caledonian Railway – blue is the national color of Scotland. The same scheme was employed upon the banners of the largely Scottish 79th New York Volunteers, known as the "Highland Regiment."

I'm going to enjoy putting my own slant on the livery !!*ok*!!

even the drivers are different! 9look and see the counterweights on the rear driver
(PS:) there is probably no problems with doing the filligree lining, and other things, as there has been many model kits, model trains, and 3d models of the jupiter with the filligree lining, and as for doing the texturing, your could use some photo textures.

Yes, I noticed that in the current drawings, the rear driver has no counterweights. I wonder why they took them off? You'd think something would be needed to counter the weight of the rear end of the side rods.

I'll ask the Golden Spike people about the filigree and artwork, just in case. They've been very helpful so far.

I too am surprised how much the engine was changed.

PS: My name is actually Nathan , and my profile is named after the locomotive's name from the 1955 movie, "a ticket to tomahawk". i need to put my actual name somewhere. !!**sorry**!!

just an idea ,if you decide to make the engine a woodburner, a cool animation would be to have the fireman throw logs in the firebox! ---although, that sure would be a headache to do **!!bang!!**
