Importing a steam loco from TSM to 3d Canvas

Postby SAR704 » Mon Sep 28, 2015 5:58 am

Although there's the detailed tutorial by Mike that explains creating a locomotive from scratch, I prefer to use TSM for object creation. Are there any guides at all that might give me an idea of how to continue the task of building a loco for TS in 3d Canvas that's had most of the work done in TSM?

Basically I just want to know how to set up the parts etc in 3d Canvas (V7) so it can get to the stage where I can export it and the blueprint editor will accept the file and start to export it (the same as how I export track lofts. Also, is there anything around regarding the creation of rollingstock?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking about making Australian content for the sim some time. I think it has plenty of life still in it.

Several years back I imported TSM files into 3DC v7 Pro with no problem at all. The only difficult part was that 3DC didn't import the texture mapping. I haven't yet tried exporting to TS16 because the export function on v& goes back to the KRS days, and I don't know how compatible that would be with current standards.

Google "The Grade Crossing at Blogspot" and check out the Locomotive Building tutorial. It may be of some use to you.

However, in my personal opinion, it's not worth the effort. By the time you finish upgrading the parts to 3DC, ypu may as well have built it from scratch. The same goes for 3DCrafter to Blender.
