TS-2016 Big Boy bugs

Unread postby jalsina » Fri Sep 18, 2015 10:46 pm

I have browsed the forums and haven't found much related with the TS2016 Big Boy issues/bugs.
As you know the Big Boy was updated. The simple folders were compressed under an .ap file. The same was done to the Challenger.
As a result of this the Big Boy Quick Drive scenarios disappeared. To get them back I drag n dropped the preload folder from my ts2015 back up. Fixed.
However as many more do, I am experiencing lack of sounds in the loco. I tried to do the same as above by dragging the audio folder but did not work. That would mean some directional instruction in a blueprint must be broken.
The only way to have those sounds working has been drag and dropping "all big boy package folders" from ts 2015 to ts2016. However it seems there was some sort of update in the loco and I am probably loosing something by doing this.
I will keep searching for the cause of this.
As I do not have yet the Sherman Hill route I can't tell how the Big Boy scenarios work.

The lack of sound of the Big Boy has been reported to DTG. I didn't like them much as they were from DTGs Black 5.

Check my post in Steam. There are so many with those problems.
My question to you, did you buy TS2016? And it was not in Steam, right?
Because someone mentioned about having sounds in his Big Boy and that the sounds problem was with the Steam version (either free download or purchase).

This morning I looked at all and everyone of the files in the downloaded big boy AP and found all audio files subfolders for the loco were empty. The only sounds available are for wagons, couplings and network related.

Besides, the Preloaded does not work as the Big Boy vanished from the QD roster.

Adding something else. Before knowing about that and not having a QD scenario for the big boy, I built a consist and I had sounds that were being "borrowed" from the Challenger.

I just had the free update on the Big Boy and it does show up on a QD for Sherman Hill. I do have sounds however they are outside the .ap and from earlier than the 2016 load.

The files outside the .ap is the reason you are not experiencing the issue.
If you open that .apwith 7Z and check Audio you will see that most of the folders are empty.
Just having audio files outside the AP will fix the problem (for those that still have it).

No thanks. I am doing well myself. I restored my ts 2015 aside the ap. People in Steam are very annoyed because of this bug (in between others), but they seem wanting to wait for a patch.

BTW, I will start installing a few mods from here in RWA to the big boy (and Challenger).

Both are not playable. No HUD. Keyboard commands not working. Can not exit scenarios. Challenger has sound. Files date from 2012.

All Challenger and Big Boy files in the .AP's are dated 2012 and 2013. Only folders have current dates.
The only way I got the Big Boy to work (everything) was restoring my ts2015 big boy files (all of them) and drag n drop them in the bb RSC pack folder aside the .ap files.

To clarify, you're saying to copy ALL the files in the prior year Big Boy folder and paste them into the 2016 Big Boy folder under the AP files folder, correct?

If so, I'm thinking I would want to go back to the TS2014 Big Boy files. As I recall, 2015 was when the headlight problem and other issues occurred. Like some other users, my Big Boy is both deaf and blind currently - no sound and still no headlight, although I am aware there is a fix for the headlights available here. Just haven't bothered yet.

Thanks.

Yes, you are right. It needs clarifying a little bit further.
What I did was only restoring my TS2015 Big Boy files (which were not compressed in an .AP) to same TS2016 folder: Railworks-->Assets-->RSC-->BigboyPack01 leaving the new .AP right there.
My TS2015 files are all dated 2012 and 2013 (nothing 2014) because they were not modded yet.

What is missing?
Since I had not installed the two Big Boy mods (and the whistle) that are here in RWA, the front headlight remain inactive. I believe that in these two mods you must have those 2014 files you mention. But that would be OK if you restore "your own modded files" from your TS2015 backup.
The sounds are the same and the Quick Drive Big Boy restored (Preload).

It is not that I don´t want to install those mods for myself. It is just I did not take the time for it but I will do it.
As I have mentioned above, DTG did not update anything new in that Big Boy .ap and besides most of the rail vehicles folders are "empty". The TS2016 ap was installed and all TS2015 big boy files were deleted.

Thanks for your reply. Now my post needs clarifying. *!greengrin!*

My Big Boy files are all dated the same as yours. When I mentioned "2014" I was referring to my backup copy of Train Sim 2014. I thought I remembered the headlight working back in that edition.

Today I copied over the Big Boy files from TS14. It did restore all the sounds. Thanks for that. The headlight still does not work, so it seems necessary to install the fix found here in the File Library.

I appreciate your help.
