Tip for steam nuts: UP does a dry run to Denver one week prior to the Frontier Days weekend. So if you wish to avoid crowds and get some great run by video, or maybe some unobstructed stills around the the Cheyenne steam shop, now's your chance.

UP does the dry run of the CFD train 2 days before the actual CFD takes place. I will be pacing the train near Platteville, CO (25 miles North of Denver) and pace it all the way to Cheyenne, I may railfan the Laramie Sub while im there, though I will not goto the Rodeo, also if anyone here is going to railfan at CP 511, the crossing is now a QZ.

Hey All,

Made some more progress last night. I've now done from Laramie to the summit of Sherman Hill. I'm curious if other will enjoy this kind of 'backdating' that I am doing though. I'm making some changes to track, yes, but those are the only major changes I am making. Most of it is just swapping out objects to more period looking ones. I'm trying to add quite a few objects to the yards, but it's hard to do it in any kind of historical way because of the lack of pictures.

I should finish not too long from now and I'll probably upload it to steam. Hopefully with TS2016 there is a longer (and hopefully historic) Sherman Hill to play around with!

I would definitely enjoy a steam era Sherman Hill. I really like the Pennsy HSC so another Steam route would be awesome IMO.

No steam this year - everything is layed up. E units and DD40. Not sure when they will dead head to Denver ready for the Cheyenne run.

The E units and 6936 will lead into Denver Tomorrow and arrive probably at 1:00 PM. They will tie it down and leave it on Friday, on Saturday the 18th, the train will depart at 7:00 AM and head up to Cheyenne, then in the evening it will head back into Denver.

If I remember correctly, SH is 2005. What would be modern in 1953 Chicago or Los Angeles, would be downright science-fiction in southern Wyoming. So, out with the steel buildings, microwave and cell towers, etc., some folks would still be using horses and mules out there. This IS still cowboy country. Most buildings of the time will be lumber and brick 2 story only - remove the modern stuff. Check your vehicle model and years. The interstate system was not started until 1956, so roads are going to look A LOT different. I-80 wasn't finished completely until August, 1986! A lot of what is paved roads currently will/should be dirt roads. Out in the country, buildings/homesteads will be few and far between. Big Ranches are the rule of the day.....
