Yes I tried that. Thanks but it didn't work.

I had the same problem you do Buzz, spinning circles followed by no overlay. This happened on the initial TS2015 update from 2014. I was pretty sure I retyped my API key 3 times over to make sure it was correct, to no avail. I generated a new API key in my google dashboard, typed it into the sim, and it worked right away. I never found out if it was myself mistyping the key, or if there was a problem with the key itself.

Hope thats of some use to you.

Thanks for the thought. I'll try that.

I had the same issue last year. Generated a new key, and the map function worked first try.
Cheers!

I will mention this. I could not get the new API keys(2) to work,no how many times I re-entered them, and checked for spelling. It was my key from 2013 that I again entered, that worked. I agree that this issue makes no sense. And I hope the issue of not being able to cut and past the key gets resolved.

Mine won't work when steam is in offline mode and I'm not online. If I close everything out then get online start steam in online mode then fire up the game it will work fine. Otherwise I get the continually spinning blue circles.

That would certainly solve a major problem. At least I would know if it's me or a glitch of some kind.

Make sure that you've also got the Static Maps API enabled on the Google side of things - that's the other common problem.

Don't under estimate the chances of typing in incorrectly either, I spoke to one person who typed it in half a dozen times, swore blind there was absolutely no chance of it being wrong and it took me two attempts before I finally spotted a lower case letter where an upper case should have been.

The trick with notepad isn't to be able to paste it in (the game simply doesn't support it in that field sadly, doesn't matter where it comes from) but to allow you to take the code from the ambiguous font used on the google web site and put it in notepad where the font is not ambiguous. I usually then boost the font size too and break it down in to 5 character sections to enter in and check each one before continuing to the next.

In terms of fixing the underlying issue here, Dovetail have not said anything on that but I will say the problem is recognised.

Matt.

I finally got it working. I still don't understand what exactly is going on here. I have two copies of TS on my computer. One I am using for our route development (which is 2014 incidentally). That one the overlay was working. I copied that one over to my 2015 and it didn't work. This morning I went and got a new key and did all the copy to notepad jazz made it bigger and typed all the characters into note pad so I was sure that O were Os and 0 were zeros and small l was not a capital I and well you get the drift. I put it in there and 1280x 1280 and no joy. I switched it to 640x640 and SHAZAMM it works. It not only works but is super much better than in my 2014 copy as far as how it renders. I can see far more detail than I can in my 2014 version.

Is that true for others? And a big thanks to Matt for inspiring me to try once again to get this working.

I am in 1280 x 1280, Type = Satellite and 3 x 3 squares showing. And yes everything is crisper and nicer, especially on the newer parts of google earth's data. Down by Reagan there is newer data from last year, then it turn to 2012 data. The 2014 data is awesome looking and really nice for route making.

The satellite imagery in the area I'm working is spotty, so I can't really comment on a quality improvement, but it definitely loads much faster than before!

And then this is what I had. Then I discovered if I zoomed in some more on my 2014 version I got the same look in both versions. Never messed with the zoom feature before.
