I think they are over-tolerant of some of the complete and utter rubbish (ill-informed commentary) that gets posted there. Some of it isn't just rubbish, it's defamatory, and in some cases is deliberately inflammatory. I go there now to try to help spot them and report threads of that kind so that they can be deleted as soon as possible. It happens even more at the weekends. I think the trolls know that the admins have a home life too and pay less attention at the weekends, so if they post on a Friday evening something that's intended to generate racial hatred, it's got a better chance of lasting more than a day. I managed to get a couple of trolls banned two weeks ago - what they posted is so bad, I can't even repeat it here without risking causing further offence. So, just saying, be prepared for seeing some utter junk there.

I know just what you are talking about Mike. That is why I don't want to go back over there anyhow.
Could you imagine me being banned over there? I haven't said anything there, that I wouldn't say anywhere else.
Well... there are the bawdy (not pornographic) threads at MTBR, but that's mountain bikers... *!greengrin!*

Looks like the "old" RW/ Steam User's Forum will stay after all. DTG says it will stay open as long as it's being used/ is popular. (but they also said Steam wanted it closed !*don-know!* )

Much ado about nothing, it seems. !**duh*!!

Interesting. From a server standpoint it doesn't matter. Steam still needs the same number of servers, nodes, etc for a given number of users.
Not only that, but the old forums are better at saving bandwidth, since they don't allow photos to be posted.
I've always liked the V Bulletin boards better. Something seems more common sense, in the way the CP and other functions work.

We now have our "secret base camp" ready to go, in case of an attack. !*roll-laugh*!

So why can't you and the others just use RWA? Are we too strict here?

I rarely even go on the Train Simulator Steam forums..... I'm starting to learn now that it's a good thing. *!rolleyes!* I think I'll just stay here nice and cozy at RWA. *!!wink!!*

Not at all, Bob. Part of it may be that a lot of the members over there are British/ European. It could also the be the "feel", or maybe style, of that forum. I know I had joined over there before I found this forum (thanks to Rich Garber) so I've known some of those chaps a long time. There actually are quite a few that are members here anyways.

@ John: the Community Forum is the one that DTG wants to change over to, that's the one we all screamed and kicked about. I don't go there. Ever. A few that joined last week have already been banned for very stupid reasons. This Forum would have about 1/2 to 1/3 of it's Members gone within a few days with that type of moderation.

So why even consider doing that other than the urge for high drama? Something that us older guys have decided is stupid and destructive and a waste of time.

Because, this is actually the second time "they" have said the current User's Forum would be shut down. Plus the Community Forum is where DTG actually hangs out, so some of us figured it would be the place to contact them and get answers to questions or report bugs. How wrong that idea turned out to be, very quickly.

@ Bob.
Bob... I love this forum and you guys. This forum is very close knit. The only other two forums where I really like everyone, are MTBR.com, which is my mountain biking community, and the old Steam Powered.com forum that is being threatened with a shut down.
The old Railworks forum at Steam is very international. English, Dutch, German, South African, Spanish, French and more. I think that's the main reason we don't want to lose it.
Anyhow, we won't be here any less. like Chris said, some of the people over there like Mike Rennie are also over here.
If they do close the old forum over at Steam, one of the guys set up a simple website for us to gather at, so we don't lose touch with each other.

I sometimes wonder how we post in so many places during the day. *!embar*!

Edit; Just as a little note, some of you may not realize there are two forums for Railworks/TS 2014 at Steam. One is the old and mellow Railworks forum, which is the one they are threatening to close, and the other is the newer SteamCommunity.com TS 2014 forum. The TS 2014 forum is the one where half the people get banned, any time a glitch in the game is talked about, and is also full of trolls.
We are suspicious, that the lack of control over what we say at the old forum, is the real reason they are trying to shut it down.
DTG themselves moderate the new one. Hence the mass bannings.

Bob
Like Eric and Chris I post on this and the STEAM forum.
The STEAM forum was the first forum that I joined and it has an undefinable "je ne sais quoi" about it. (Buzz techno geek for mildly interesting !!*ok*!! )
It is a good forum with varied interests and some very good posters (and RWA).
I joined RWA because of the RSC - USA content and because of LIsboa, "Doc" Machinist (now in Run8).
The bottom line for me is that RWA and Steam forums complement each other and its worth visiting both!
