Tracklaying progress continues. In the past 2 months, the whole line has been relayed to the grade profile diagrams. Now I'm working on adding sidings, and easing gradients, first on the 7 mile Mundelein Branch. Here's Libertyville looking east:

In addition, some competition had to be added. Here is Rondout, where the Milwaukee Road still crosses the Elgin Joliet and Eastern.

The map is beginning to look a bit more fleshed out.

Finally, the previously mentioned 3d modeling has not quite worked out. I have the plans if anyone wishes to try, (Please do!)

If you can get 3D Crafter Pro I'll teach you how to 3d model, it's really quite easy to model.

January 20th, 1963 was just another winter day on the North Shore Line. A front had come through the previous day, dumping copious amounts of snow on the ground. Today the weather had cleared, albeit leaving the temperatures in the -20*F range. Trains ran as normal, with the dense hourly service cutting through the cold and snow. Today however, would be the last for the North Shore Line. Abadonment had been approved the previous June by the ICC, and the railroad would turn the lights out for good at 4:01 AM, January 21st. For now though, trains are operating at capacity as many people take one last ride. A midday Chicago Limited kicks up a trail of snow as it glides through Lake Bluff on the last day.

The last of the "Route Miles" came into existence earlier this week, when I discovered the borough of Highwood, IL, on the original alignment of the North Shore north of Chicago known as the Shore Line. (Most of the line was abandoned in 1955 in favor of the Skokie Valley Route, but a 7 mile single track stretch remained for access to the main shops located in Highwood, as well as a few freight customers who existed a few miles south in Highland Park.)

Hold your breath, it's a real tight corner to get into the shop!

Can someone tell me how to get the track (other than Tram track) to show in 2013. The catinary is missing also.

The train runs on invisible track.

Thanks

Hello,

If you're talking about this route in particular, you need the Freeware version of Scalerail from 3Dtrains installed. Install that and then reinstall the route, and the track should show up. The catenary is from the Northeast Corridor addon from RSC. You'll need it for catenary and a good portion of trees and foliage that are/will be in the route.

Hope this helps,
Zach

I like some good complicated trackwork.

This is also the last time I'm going to relay Howard St, I promise! !*hp*!

I seem to go about tweaking a lot. This tangent section of track didn't line up with the Google map projection, so I fixed it. It should finally match what was really there. I'm also slowing adding scenery on my own. Look out soon for some more screenshots along the Mundelein Branch...
