Fine back to Bridges.........

I finally figured out how to get the shader working properly. Now to make a real texture and finish this beast off. I'm still trying to figure out why the shadows stop half way down the bridge Must have something to do with the way RS handles shadows. I think I baked this a little to hard, so I'll make another run at it and see what I can get.

I think it's looking great, great to see some new scenery developers to the sim.

Shame about the shadows. IIRC, it used to be hard-coded (RS), but it might also be tied to the video card one uses for RW. I've seen shadows such as yours on my own objects, but also some from kick-ass systems that drew shadows out further.

Nevertheless, the bridge looks terrific, and your use of vegetation to mask shadow popping is very clever! !!*ok*!!

OK spent today figuring out the shader. And I think I got my head around it finally. *!!wink!!* I had a used the auto unwrap for my baked texture, and it was just way to small. So once I remapped the whole model, and redid the baking, I got this. Plus, I started on my final texture for this beast. I really want to thank Papa and everyone else who pointed me in the right directions to get this working, Thank you all!!!

I'm not new, I did some things way back when MSTS first came out, then I got sidetracked by MSFS & Panzer Commander and life........ But I found RS a couple of months ago and I was like hmmmmm, maybe I can dig out that old 100T coal car and bring it into this sim along with the 4-4-0 Cliff and I where working on. I also had a 4-6-6-4 Challenger for MSTS, almost finished when I lost a hard drive and all my files. That was a learning experience I would still like to forget. But this sim is way better then MSTS, hell just the poly counts give us a huge advantage over the old MSTS. anyway I'm ramblin'

Mighty impressive viaduct. Is that modeled after Starrucca (sp?), I was always impressed by early concrete structures and the Art Deco architecture of many of them.

Do you sometimes head over to Elvas Tower? You'd be surprised by the quality of new engines and cars developed overthere for MSTS and Open Rails.
One of the best routes in MSTS, namely Western Pacific Feather River Canyon, has recently gotten some of the best steam engines possible under the limitations of MSTS.
Open Rails has no such limitations, and allows for much higher poly counts and texture detail. The builders overthere have to pull out some tricks however, like "splitting the engine" to get their models both into MSTS and Open Rails.

Sounds great, also I can't wait to see the steamers released, I love steam power. Actually also started on a locomotive myself but I'm still trying to figure out how to build it correctly.

Also I used to have MSTS as well, but left it when I received the fatal error and couldn't get into the game without first dealing with a ton of error messages popping up. I as well will never go back to MSTS.

By the way, the bridge looks awesome, I as well need to do some more iron truss bridges soon, I did a couple a long time ago, but have to say that I don't really like building bridges though, more into building big city buildings and skyscrapers.

By the way, would love to see you compare the size of the bridge to one of my skyscrapers that I released. So some can really see how big it is.

_o_OOOO_oo-Kanawha, I can't even find my MSTS install disk............... :( so I haven't even bothered looking at any of MSTS stuff and it's one of the reasons I got into RS. and this is the Nicholson Viaduct, it's little brother the Martin's Creek Viaduct is just up the road a bit, and I'm thinking of doing that one next. This way I can eventually do the DL&W route from Scranton to Binghamton

Wikipedia history lesson:
Tunkhannock Viaduct (also known as the Nicholson Bridge) is a concrete deck arch bridge that spans the Tunkhannock Creek in Nicholson, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania in the United States. It was the largest[clarification needed] concrete bridge in the U.S. when it opened, and remained so even 50 years later.[2]

The bridge contains about 163,000 cubic yards (125,000 m3) of concrete and 1,250 short tons (1,130 t) of steel. It is 2,375 feet (724 m) long and 240 feet (73 m) tall when measured from the creek bed (300 feet (91 m) tall from the bedrock). The bridge was built as part of the Nicholson Cutoff, which was part of a project of the Lackawanna Railroad to replace a winding and hilly route. This rerouting was built between Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Binghamton, New York. All 13 piers were excavated to bedrock, which was up to 138 feet (42 m) below ground level. Almost half of the bulk of the bridge is underground.

jpetersjr, dose size matter? LOL here ya go. That's a PPR K4 crossing the first span pulling some BB box cars by the way. You really can't see him, but there is a 70's worker standing at the beginning of the bridge

This will look great in the file library if and when you upload it.

Best detail I've ever seen, looks better then my iron truss bridge.
