I assume that you are talking about repaints and the fact they are free. However, in my case I always try to get the base model as close to the actual loco as I can (even to the point of having parts made!). If that means I need to use a payware model to accomplish that, I will. Basically I furnish my work for free, but I can't furnish the model used If it is payware, as the work belongs to the original author.

Let's see now. If you get something for free it's freeware. If you can't use it it's still free therefore it's 'freeware'. Now that makes sense.

Well, if you want to get all symantical about it, there is no such thing as "freeware". You can download a route or locomotive that was made by a third party and touted as free, but RSC ain't giving Railworks away for free, so you've got to have the base program purchased and installed.

I suppose if you own LocomotiveLatestAndGreatest from a payware provider, and someone else makes a livery that they did not do, you could say that livery is a freebie. I can also understand the perspective that if you don't already own that locomotive, that reskin might look a gimmick to get you to buy the loco. But there probably aren't to many freelance skinners out there who have making money for the Provider in mind when they put out their favorite livery to the public.

Good grief! When a locomotive repaint is labeled as freeware, it's the repaint that's free, not the locomotive. That's completely obvious or, as today's politicians like to put it, transparent (not the repaint, the terminology: see how this works?). A 3rd-party route labeled as freeware should mean that all assets used to make it are freeware or at least included in the basic TS2013 package. RSC has muddied this matter (thus making it less transparent) by selling several different versions of TS2013, but the principle remains the same. If a 3rd-party route requires assets from payware products (RSC or otherwise), it should not be labeled "freeware"; but some "freeware" route builders fail to keep accurate records, which puts them up to their assets in trouble.

In any case, there's no such word as "symantical" in the English language: the correct term, even though it looks awkward, is "semantic".
