It's been a while, so here are some screenshots to show that I haven't been completely idle (despite being tempted to play Rome Total War 2 several times a day):

Clearly there's still an enormous amount to do, but I'll keep chipping away, a bit every day.

Looking splendid !!! And all done in 3D Crafter?

What kind of walkways did UP use on the FEF's? It looks like wood/sheet metal with anti skid spikes/studs.

IHH's Big Boy has this lacy see through mesh that looks good from the cab.

Typical with late ALCo productions, the cab is rather small compared to the engine in front of it. Make sure your's doesn't sag, as was often seen on prototype FEF's and Niagara's nearing the end of their service life.

Yes, all done in 3DCrafter - not the best programme around, but it was all I could afford at the time. I've invested so much time in learning to use it that I'll have to carry on using it for the time being.

These photos show quite well what the walkways (runboards) look like:

You can see that they are simple perforated sheet metal - no skid spikes or studs. I still have to add the support brackets beneath the runboards, along with the nuts and bolts (as I did with the Connie), in particular so that the view from the cab will match closely what you see in these photos.

I'm doing the cab according to the technical drawings I've got, so there won't be any sagging !!*ok*!!

My cities are already being sacked right now *!lol!* My son laughs when he sees how badly I play the game (he, of course, is an expert).

Now back to the loco ...

Hay Smokebox,
I recently purchased a 3 DVD set from historic rails that featured UP 844. If you were looking for more insight into the locomotive this DVD (second in the set) is a great buy.

It is the Running Steam Locomotives set. I got it on sale.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the tip. I'll see if I can get it, although it might be difficult with me being in Europe.

!*cheers*!

This has some nice info on the whistle and some decent audio. :)

And, it's the way the 844 ought to be as far as paint and chrome amounts go... Black with no chrome.

Great video!

Don't worry, I'll be including an alternative scheme with no chrome and no white-walled tyres.

Fantastic!

There are views in the video that I haven't been able to find in still photos, like the views from above.
