What kind of walkways did UP use on the FEF's? It looks like wood/sheet metal with anti skid spikes/studs.
IHH's Big Boy has this lacy see through mesh that looks good from the cab.
Typical with late ALCo productions, the cab is rather small compared to the engine in front of it. Make sure your's doesn't sag, as was often seen on prototype FEF's and Niagara's nearing the end of their service life.
Yes, all done in 3DCrafter - not the best programme around, but it was all I could afford at the time. I've invested so much time in learning to use it that I'll have to carry on using it for the time being.
These photos show quite well what the walkways (runboards) look like:

You can see that they are simple perforated sheet metal - no skid spikes or studs. I still have to add the support brackets beneath the runboards, along with the nuts and bolts (as I did with the Connie), in particular so that the view from the cab will match closely what you see in these photos.
I'm doing the cab according to the technical drawings I've got, so there won't be any sagging
