Documentation for Burlington Northern, BNSF, and UP by David Whiting (dtrainBNSF1)

Timetables.zip - 26 MB

These are documents covering operations for trains on Burlington Northern, BNSF, and UP

Description

These are all timetables and special instructions for operations on BN, BNSF and UP that I've aquired over the last couple of years.  These can all be used for creating scenarios on Cajon Pass, Marias Pass, Stevens Pass, Pacific Surfline, and Donner Pass.  Included are the following:

Burlington Northern System Special Instructions (SSI) from 1995
Burlington Northern Employee Timetables for the Montana and Cascade Divisions (includes Marias Pass and Stevens Pass)
BNSF SSI from 1998
BNSF SSI from 2005
BNSF Air Brake & Train Handling Rules (ABTH) from 1998
BNSF ABTH from 2013
BNSF Employee Timetable for Southern California (1998 - Includes Cajon Pass before Main Track 3 was added)
BNSF Employee Timetables for the modern California Division (Cajon Pass after Main Track 3 was added, also the L.A. area and Surf Line), Montana Division (includes Marias Pass or Hi-Line), and the Northwest Division (Includes Stevens Pass or Scenic Sub)
BNSF Train Definitions and Symbols
Union Pacific Employee Timetable for the Roseville Area (includes the Roseville Subdivision, aka Donner Pass)

These documents admittedly are not 100% up-to-date but are more than enough to help make Train Simulator feel a bit more realistic.  They all cover specific instructions for operations over the various subdivisions, train formation, locomotive placement, locomotive operation, handbrake usage, etc. etc.  All employee timetables also include a grade profile for all routes, which DTG have for the most part stuck to.  These can help when you plan out the power needs and locomotive formations for your particular train over specific sections of line, especially when coupled with specific rules dictated by the SSI's, ABTH's and the specific operating instructions for each subdivision.

I personally have used these as I've made scenarios for Train Simulator and as I've set up specific runs for myself just because.  They have made the game feel more realistic to me and have made the driving experience that much more rewarding for me.  If anything else they're good reads for railfans who want to know a bit more about the specific operations of real railroads.
