I worked at the paper mill in Camas, WA for years, and they used a giant vacuum unit to pull them out, blowing the chips into a pile.

OK, (now that we are really off topic...) now we need someone to model this giant vacuum unit, like what we have for the hoppers *!greengrin!*

I have a near irresistable urge to model a giant Snuffleupagus now :)

Omg, you're kidding?! It just crossed my mind right before I read this, "Well, maybe they used a giant vaccum cleaner" but I instantly laughed and dismissed the idea as silly!

Moving back in the general direction of the thread topic, I just want to mention somewhere that I just bought the RWA donationware pack and I find it to be one of the best deals I've seen yet for U.S. Railworks fans! I am VERY pleased and can't wait for someone to paint some C&O/Chessie name/logos on the sides of those 100t coal cars!!

Kuddos to everyone involved in that production! More More!! !*brav*!

I think they called them "cyclones" they were used both for sawdust collection on production lines, and to empty the wood chips from the cars. I used to work in the printing business as a mechanic. Trust me, the paper waste was tremendous, and we had these huge cyclone machines to collect all the waste. Could probably use a model of the same device (If there is one, anyways) to offload the wood pulp cars.

I see that Snuffleupagus leaping into the saw dust as appose to sucking it up (based on true life experience of my cat jumping into a huge box of packing peanuts).
