Description

SC Hop-Scotch TAP-01

"Hop Scotch, Anyone?" is a shunting scenario by Tom
Pallen (Old Prof) for the RailWorks 3 Settle to
Carlisle DLC route. Running time should be about
2 hours, but there are two places where breaks can
easily be taken.

The scenario obviously requires RW3 and the DLC
Settle to Carlisle route. It will not run in any
other route on any other simulator ... unless a
miracle occurs.

===================================================

Description: The scenario begins in the Carlisle
Freight Yard, where you are waiting for another
driver to complete his shift so that you can take
over his engine. Once you take control [by clicking
on the engine], you have a train to make up in the
yard. Once you've completed the formation, you
start up the line toward Settle, making several
halts along the way for pick-ups and drop-offs
(and tea breaks, of course, if you fancy them).
Some of the halts require a bit of tricky work and
there's a surprise near the end.

===================================================

Installation:

1. You have already downloaded and opened
the installation ZIP file, so now you can unzip the
SC_Hop-Scotch_TAP.rwp file to any convenient location,
such as your computer's desktop.

2. Launch RwilWorks 3, select the Package Manager
tab, and click on the Refresh button (right side of
the window).

3. Have a snack or short nap, or go to the loo.

4. When you come back, the Package Manager should be
open and ready to go. Click the Install button. In the
box that opens, navigate to the place where you parked
SC_Hop=Scotch_TAP.rwp, select it, and click on Open.

The scenario will be waiting for you the next time you
open RW3 and select the Settle to Carlisle route.

======================================================

Suggestions:

1. There are some very stubborn points and signals in
the Carlisle Freight Yard: so stubborn that getting
past them may (actually, will) require you to save the
scenario, quit it, and resume it. On resumption,
everything should be tickity-boo again. You will be
reminded of this anomaly by the scenario's instructions.

2. Always ask for permission to pass a red signal! When
in doubt, ask anyway.

3. As you leave Carlisle Freight Yard, you will be
instructed to change engine cabs. Once you have done so,
keep in mind that although the reverser knows that the
cab has changed and behaves accordingly, the "helicopter"
views and the SPAD system do not get the message. Again,
there is a reminder of this within the scenario.

4. There is one longish run between halts and you may want
to select the "EnableAsyncKeys" option so as to move
more rapidly. If you do so, keep careful watch on throttle
and brakes, since they will also be operating at the
multiplied rate that you have selected. It's a very good
idea to return to normal time when apporaching a halting
place and to avoid using the Async keys while shunting.
If you haven't the slightest idea what this is all about,
you may be better off.

==========================================================

This scenario is freeware and may be modified and uploaded
to other websites. If you're simply passing along this
package, please keep it intact. If you've modified anything,
please create an additional read-me file to explain what
you have done.

I am not responsible for any ill effects that may occur to
you, to RW3, or to your computer as a result of installing
and running this scenario.

Finally, let me just note that the Settle to Carlisle route
seems more than a bit unsettled (pun intended, of course).
In the process of writing and editing, I have frequently
found the route slightly different in behavior from one
session to the next. Because of this, I feel less certain
about the quality of this scenario than of any other I have
created. It ran and completed properly for me before I
packaged and uploaded it. I hope that it does the same
for you.
