Kakamas to Upington by Hermann (hermannk1) Kuhne & Johan (Johansteam) Pretorius

Description

Kakamas to Upington Route - a  truly South African Route
--------------------------------------------------
A route starting at Kakamas next to the Orange River.  The small town of Kakamas was built on the sheer hard work and determination of a couple of impoverished stock farmers at the end of the 19th century.  The route crosses the lower Orange River, graced with vineyards, cotton and lucern fields and runs parallel to the river until it reaches Upington about 80 km (499mi) further up the river.
As so many of South African branchlines, the real route has no signals at all.  It is operated by a 'Token System" where a driver receives a token at a station to proceed on to the next station.  Only with this token can you enter a specific stretch of track.  However, I placed a few signals because the Token System does not work in RW2.
