Good news guys! The download area by coordinates feature is back! Just click on the advanced tab, and click "Bounding box from coordinates"! It works!!!!

The tutorial is great.

One question though, the markers you refer to that the game 'builds' the terrain around. Are you meaning station markers or markers imported from Google Earth?

Thanks,

Hey Chris

All markers are imported from google earth so this should answer your question.

Tutorial is gone... can you reupload? I downloaded the .zips from the map and everything, but now I don't know how to import them into RW...

I could but this tutorial covers only the steps of importing the data without redem! I will write another tutorial for Redem, which will explain everything as clear as possible and which will also
cover the steps of merging the dem's, but I don't know yet, when this new tutorial will be available.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but last night I downloaded some DEM and there is no longer a .flt file in the folder. Also the .IMG file is showing as a win zip file which I can't open to convert to .BIL in microdem.
Has anyone successfully installed DEM since the April change over?
Cheers

Did you tick "Gridfloat" as the format while you have requested the data?

The only format option was for img. I'll have another play with it tonight after work and see if I can find what's happening.

I remember something about the National Map Viewer changing formats in April.

Yeah as of April 1st the only format available for 1/9 arc data is .img, I'm not sure about 1/3 arc data. I'll see what I can come up with to convert the files and post back here.

I've found a thread on trainsim that seems to have this problem covered. The problem is i've tried the steps and downloads and still no joy. If someone could give this a try and see if it works that would be great and show me what step i'm getting wrong. It's basicly a batch file that you drop your .img into and it's ment to change it to a .bil but i can't seem to get it to work.

It does work but it's the wrong batch file. You have to use "GDAL_IMG_2_BIL.bat" instead of "GDAL_Convert_All_IMG_2_BIL.bat" . Simply copy the batch file into the downloaded DEM folder, where your .img file is located in and then just drag the .img file over the batch file. It will then generate a new folder called: BIL_Output where you will find your converted bil. NOTICE: This converted bil file will not contain the header .blw file which is necessary for use in ReDem. I use Arcgis to generate them. In case you want to generate them simply open up Arcmap, open then the Arctoolbox and click under "Data Management Tools/Raster/Raster Properties/ on "Export Raster Word File" and then browse for your Bil in the "Input Raster Dataset" Bar. Once you found it, click on ok and wait a bit till the tool generated your .blw (Raster Word file) in the output location of your generated .Bil file.

I never even thought to try the other file. It was the convert one I was trying to use !DUH!
Thanks for trying it out. I'll try again tonight when I'm back on my pc.

I can't get it to work either when I drag and drop the IMG onto the script the window opens and promptly closes with no results. I followed the directions to the letter and tried both batch files with no luck.

You have to have either Microdem or Arcgis installed on your system in order for the script to work.
