End Of Train Device Implimentation in Railworks

Unread postby OlPaint » Tue May 07, 2013 10:24 pm

I have discovered the red flashing End Of Train (EOT) device hanging on the coupler of the last rail car in several of the bundled scenarios for the Marias Pass route. Could someone explain what the EOT device is and how it is implimented in RailWorks4?

I am curious...Can we hang the EOT device on the end of a new freight train manually in real time? Are we able to manually remove an existing EOT device from the end of a cut of cars before we assemble them into a freight train in real time? The EOT device appears to get smashed between the mating cuts of cars when they are coupled together.

"The 'smart' FRED devices monitor functions such as brake line pressure and accidental separation of the train using a motion sensor, functions that were previously monitored by a crew in the caboose.[1] The FRED transmits the data via a telemetry link to the Head-of-Train Device (HTD) in the locomotive, known colloquially among railroaders as a 'Wilma'. This is a play on the first name of the wife of cartoon character Fred Flintstone. In Canada, this device is known as an SBU (Sense and Braking Unit)."
I have not spent any time looking at how it works in game but now that you mention it I'll take a look. Maybe someone already has and can help us out here.

I'm pretty sure it automatically jumps to the last car when you couple up so you don't get flashing lights between your added cars. I don't have Marias Pass to check but this is what it does on Sherman Hill.

Is there a way we can add the Sherman Hill flashing EOT's do the Kuju and other RSC rollingstock?

You need to copy the relevant child node to each car blueprint, and the relevant section of lua script to each car's lua script.
Difficulty: you need a readable lua script, one that was not compiled into luac.

I guess I'm stuck with using cabooses for the steam engines instead of eot. Oh well. Even I can't read lua, luau, aloha whatever you call it. !*roll-laugh*!

EOT's didn't exist until the 80's so cabeese were correct for steam engines and early diesels.

Some container wagons that came with the Freightliner Class 66 DLC featured flashing lights between wagons as well as at the far end of the last wagon.
