Already been doing that, it takes forever to crop on the shiny silver on the wheel's edge where the wheel meets the track.

Of course, what I mean is I'm using the UV-Mapping and the paint brush.

Aaaarrggh! Paint bucket ... noooooo!

There's a big problem with the paint bucket in 3DC. It will UV map some surfaces using a single straight line, not a polygon. That translates into a slightly odd texture with TSX on, but with TSX off, it means the surface will appear totally black! I know this because I made the mistake of using the paint bucket in an early version of the Consolidation (never again!). You must use the paint bruush, or do it the even harder way and use the UV mapping tool. There's no shortcut.

On the other hand, the paint bucket is fine for doing a quick 1-minute texturing for the sole purpose of being able to export the model into RW quickly just to see how the geometry looks. But if you do it, use a bright colour like red so that you can see what you textured with the paint bucket (and that way you can see what needs to be textured correctly for the final model).

Working on another one of the vents, haven't yet added the inner parts to this one yet.

Most of RSC locomotives are actually just as much detailed, I've seen some payware engines with vents.

There is a difference though because I'm modeling it in only 3d Crafter and no sketchup.

I'm strongly thinking about removing the vents now.

It's a simple fix, but unfortunately with less detail.

Also on the class 66 engine they had what looked like 3d vents.

What I'll try first is removing alot of the fonds, at least half of them out of the vent to make it a lot better on polygon level, and if that don't work I'll remove them all together.

I figure if I remove a ton of fonds out of the vents they'll be much better on polygon level and not 7,400 poly each.

....Edit....

Alright, good news, I deleted half of the fonds and I got it down to 348 polygon.

Here's the new edited vent.

Also I think it looks better this way.
