A couple of seconds later, some guy in Argentina is wondering why a small plastic train coupler just appeared in his mashed potatos, and you are crawling about the floor wondering where the @&$%! that part just went to.

Well I played the scenario "[BNSF1] Don't Stop Moving" which came with the ES44AC & SD40-2 BNSF DLC pack. The scenario has you starting a long heavy east bound train from a standstill on a 2.2% grade about half way up the western face to the summit of Cajon Pass. It has 4 ES44ACs on the front and 2 SD40-2s on the back. Never played the scenario prior to the latest steam update, but the physics do seem heavier to me. This in addition to the apparent stiffening of the couplers.

I went notch-8, no sand with the brakes on and went to max RPMs. I then dragged off the line by dropping the brakes instantly to zero and the train felt pretty heavy. No obscene Ferrari-like acceleration and it topped out just shy of 22mph awhile later. It didn't have Run 8's level of heaviness and slow acceleration, but it seemed better. I would have to try the scenario under an older backup to confirm it since I didn't play this scenario prior to the update.

It's not there yet, but seems to have improved and that's a good thing. Better late then never i suppose. *!greengrin!*

Last year I ran the same scenario, and maxed out around 12 mph.

That would imply the physics got worse. Either that or you notched up much slower then I and didn't have the momentum off the line to reach the speed I did. !*don-know!*

Had I pulled this move in real life, the coupler would be snapped mighty quick.

I think you're bang on there. I've had both results but I think the latter would've resulted in a broken coupler if the game had this feature.

No, because the whole system is spinning together. Your helicopter is hovering at 0 mph relative to the planet, so it is in fact spinning at 1000 mph ( a little bit more actually*) around the planet.

Actually the concept of immobility has no meaning. All bodies move in relation to other bodies, even galaxies. There is no fixed reference point in the universe.

* It has the same angular velocity as the planet's surface, but because it is further from the spin axis, its linear velocity is higher.

You should be flying rockets, not driving trains.

There is only one point in the universe that doesn't have motion. That is the very center. Everything else is expanding away from the center until there will no longer be enough gravity between the galaxies to hold them near to each other.

I know where that is. There was this girl I used to date in College...

Ummm, about that. Lot's of new theories about the Multiverse being bandied about, meaning our universe is actually moving about inside whatever container is holding all the other Univi. So the center is moving, it's just dragging us all along with it and it appears stationary to us. Kind of reminds me of this episode of Mork and Mindy where Mork gets this disease and starts shrinking...

I don't know if I'm just imagining as well but the brakes do seem to take longer to stop. (I crashed into a siding earlier today :o)

I wonder, if the physics have been changed, has the difficulty of career scenarios been reduced.
