Heading to the States again in September for a 4 day Fall charter on the C&TS and will be heading north before that for my first trip to Marias Pass - the scenery is stunning and am looking forward to that possibly almost as much as the steam (almost but not quite *!lol!* )

!*cheers*!

I'm not a fan of steam, but if I had to pick, there isn't a finer color scheme than GN's Glacier Park. !!*ok*!!

Can never understand how a rail enthusiast can say "I am not a fan of steam" - they are the really the "dogs danglies" They are alive, you have to feed them, they breathe fire and smoke and are an engineering marvel with what they achieve with just fire and water. They opened up the continent and led to its prosperity. That said, to each their own; its what makes this hobby interesting *!lol!*

Now Mike...where is this P-2 *!lol!*

!*cheers*!

Well count me as not a fan of steam either. I've yet to complete a steam scenario, although I will get around to it. I'm a diesel man. but I do like steam better then electric trains..... for which I also haven't gotten to their scenarios yet either.

This route looks to be 1990s era, which seems to be a pretty good era to choose with most routes. It's when we transitioned from the spartan cab towards the modern safety cabs. It's also an era when lots of modern locomotives mixed with a lot of 1970s era locomotives still in mainline service.

I haven't pulled out MSTS in years, but based on the map of the route they have released....... is it a clone of the MSTS route coverage? Or is it more.....is it less?!?!? !**conf**!

looks to be similar to what MSTS was but with a few extra sidings and industry's and some branch lines that I don't recognise?

Let's see if it's based on a prototypical route it would be similar wouldn't it?

Well, I'm pretty sure he meant does it cover the same territory or have more on one end or the other of the MSTS route. It's sort of obvious, as you suggest, that he wasn't asking if it went off in different directions.

Yes to clarify.... is it a clone or did it include more or less mainline track on the east and west ends of the route then MSTS? But I'm also open to hearing if their was more branch track as well. It's all good! Thanks for the answers! !!howdy!!

The minisule plan RSC posted before is about as close to answering the question as you're likely to get at the moment, I reckon.

I suspect it's impossible to clone something you've never seen? !*don-know!*

With a pair of travelers at each windowpane.
I may sit beside you all the journey through,
Or I may sit elsewhere, never knowing you.
But if fate should mark me to sit by your side,
Let's be pleasant travellers; it's so short a ride."

To hertsbob.....

Oh I asked cuz I didn't know off the top of my head since I haven't had MSTS installed on my computers in years. It's packed in a box somewhere. Some of the members here were likely more hardcore MSTS users then I and would be more likely to know the answer off the top of their head. That's why I asked.

As for how can you clone a route you haven't seen? Considering Railworks roots are in MSTS thanks to Kuju, they'd easily be able clone it. I suppose anyone can load the route into the MSTS editor to see what it's made of.

If you meant how can they MAKE a route that they've never seen? That's a good question. I'm not sure to what extent the RSC team has come to the USA to scout out routes and take pictures. They may have people in the USA they know that do that work for them........OR.... they simply take educated guesses based on aerial photos. Certainly a good question that Derek should be able to answer considering he is one of the artists for RSC. !*don-know!*

This couldn't be more false of a statement, if that were even remotely true, RSC would have pumped out content a lot faster than they have. Perhaps preexisting DEM data, maybe, but the new DEM data of today is much more accurate than those of 1998.
Plus, would you really want a clone of a route that had 7% grades and transitions into grades- if had Railworks camera instability in cab- would throw you to the floor?

See.... I knew someone would know that answer better then I. It's been so long since I played MSTS, I didn't recall their being 7% grades in that. When it comes to correct object scenery, it would be awesome if the railroads allowed a 360 degree high resolution Google street view-like camera to be mounted on the roof of a lone locomotive and run along a route. That would make it way easier for RSC to make an accurate representation of a route in Railworks. Of course that's likely to never happen, but we can dream can't we?! *!greengrin!*
