I'm Back at it Again...

Unread postby simer4 » Sun Dec 23, 2012 11:09 pm

Well folks, over the past few days, I have been back into experimenting with sounds after a 3/4 year burnout. This is the next part that I had planned a long time ago for the SD40 Sound Pack; an update of sorts. It's more for realistic sound levels, as well as a new horn system.

A couple of people over at Facebook may have seen it, but here it is for you guys to see now that I have a final graph for it.

Here it is, a 3 part horn, in audible distance form, in a graph:
Image
The Red Line is the near sounds.
The Green Line is the far sounds.
The Blue Line is the stereo echo sounds. Stereo gives you a realistic echo. In real life, echoes do not have the Doppler effect, therefore, a stereo sound creates this effect.

A bit of tweaking is still to be done, as well as actually getting these numbers in to the game.

Interesting thought on the horn curves. I messed around with my BN RS3K on my truck doing an Up close recording, a mid distance recording, and a long distance recording. I then had one with the distance being within close distances of the locomotive, and blah blah blah. Turns out to be a sweet effect! I'm also planning on adding sound sources to my M420 from each point where the sound comes from. Diesel sounds from the hood, fan sounds from radiator area, horn from horn, bell from bell, etc.

Excellent news! In my view RSC should incorporate your work and give you a little compensation...it would bring your work to so many more people.
