SD70M?

Unread postby up_8677 » Mon Sep 24, 2012 12:56 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm mostly busy at school pursuing my CS degree. So haven't had time to play with railworks. I read the big thread about the new GEVO, but no one seems to be talking about the SD70M. How is it?

Doesn't it have a new cab?

Our own BNSF Dude, frequent poster on this board, prepared and delivered a whole new HiFi UP sound set to RSC but they decided not to use it for the Sherman Hill model.

Other than that I don't know of any improvements. New couplers with brake hose animation perhaps?

Its well done - not anything particularly special, but it does have a new cab and cool features like the before mentioned working air hoses and in cab painted dynamically generated unit numbers (like the ES44 and SD40-2 now have, too). Its a step up from the SD70 packs released a while ago, but its not a leap up. Still, nothing to complain about. !*brav*!

Thanks guys. Looking forward to trying the new version...looks like there's still work to be done based on the threads here, but it also looks to be a step in the right direction.

I am a little concerned about the cab of the SD70M (though I prefer the cabs with analog gauges because they usually work *!lol!* ) because the later 70M's with increased radiator area (the flared hood) have AAR-esque control stands as far as I know...

The sounds are bad, and the EQ reservoir needle doesn't work. Other than that, I like it.

I was invited up into rent-a-reck SD70M a few years ago (don't tell the CSX police) that was sitting at a red signal for a terribly long time and it had the desk-top controls exactly like in the game but it had been updated into a glass-cockpit. So in short, the desk-top controls are correct.

[edit] I guess the real kicker with the game's cab is that there is a selector switch for the SDIS on the left side of the desktop, under the headlight switch. !*roll-laugh*!
