I find the transition in and out of superelevetad curves is still a bit too abrupt for my liking, perhaps because the easement sections are a little short here and there.
So I reduced the MaxCantAngle to 2 and increased LineUnevenness to 25.
This makes the transitions less abrupt and more in line with the general cab sway.
It is hardly noticeable from the cab, but clearly visible from the front external camera view.

My own TrackRule uses similar values, except LineUneveness was set to 5 (it was higher, but with unsatisfactory results). The trick I found when laying out my own version of the triple track was to set the line speed to a higher level, thus increasing the length of easements as well as lessening the effect of cab-jolt when entering a curve. The original part of the route runs from Colton to Indio over the Yuma district, and the TrackRule speed was much lower and in stark contrast to the increased speed set in the current rule for the Cajon portion, and as a result, I will likely need to relay the UP section.

Marc, does this mean that the transition from level to superelevated track i.e. the easement sections are created automatically?
I thought you had to lay them down, and in existing routes therefore had to cut the track in small sections and put increasing "easement" (probably a portion of the max superelevation?) into each by editing the track properties. That's why I think a lot of us concluded that putting superelevation in existing routes is too much effort for only a small visual effect.

Superelevation does have a visible effect of the physics of the trains rounding curves in those relative high speed sections of Cajon. The engines and cars swing out less and are therefore less likely to derail and that's what superelevation is for in the first place *!lol!*

SE stil requires an easement, but the speed set in the TrackRules has a direct effect on the length of that easement when laid in the editor. The higher the speed, the greater (and smoother) the easement. Note, however, that setting too high of a speed will prevent you from creating sharp curves - and there are plenty on Cajon. FWIW, most North American freight routes would be in the 60~70 mph range, while a high-speed route, such as the NEC, would probably be in the neighborhood of 200~250 mph to be smooth. Also, cutting and adding to easements is a sure way to get a wonky curve.

Besides SE, there's another benefit to laying easements - if at any time you need to relay a section of track, and provided you know the exact grade % and don't screw with the TrackRules, it's relatively painless to fix things without affecting track down the line. For example, I made an error on the location of Martinez, where triple track ends and double begins past Summit, and had to lay a mile of triple track until I got to the right spot. Without easements, I would have needed to relay all track towards Barstow - not a fun thought. All that was required was to delete the straight sections, relay with triple track, and then delete the middle (normal) portion of the curves. The existing easements allowed for the third track to be set, and then all that was needed then was to create a single-track easement into and out of the curves. Took some thought and a bit of patience, but it came out none for wear and saved me countless hours.
Cheers!

Re: Cajon Pass with superelevation v1.2

Unread postby Bermúdez » Thu Sep 20, 2012 11:24 am

Updated version to 1.2
Given that the default route has become DLC content, I have been forced to change the packaging to not commit any illegality.
This new version is no longer installed as a separate route, but rather overwrites the original. In list of routes of the simulator it will appear under the name of "Cajon Pass with superelevation", replacing "Barstow-San Bernardino".
Therefore, if you verified cache from Steam, you will need to reinstall the package.

Requirements (only for the Train Simulator 2013 new users)
The Train Simulator 2013 new users must have the DLC 'Cajon Pass Add-On', available here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/208307/, if they want to enjoy this modification.

Regards.

Hello, I have disabled the download because I found a little problem after the update to Train Simulator 2013. It is not serious, but I have to repackage it again and upload to my server. It will be available as soon as possible.

Note:
Those who have downloaded this version (v1.2) will not play with her, so they will have to download and reinstall the new version when becomes available. My apologies.

Ola Bermudez,

I have installed the v3 tonight, but, when I go into my RW Tools, the description of the route still says Cajon Pass, NOT, Cajon Pass with superelevation ????
The Route Properties XML Document has not been changed on the line for English language ??

Hi, thanks for download.

The RouteProperties.XML Document has not been included in the packaging, that's the reason that appears as Cajon Pass in RW Tools.
But in the simulator is shown as "Cajon Pass with superelevation" (in English), or "Cajon Pass con peraltes" (in Spanish).

Hello ex-railwayman, now I have included the RouteProperties.xml with modified lines corresponding to the English and Spanish languages in a new packaging. You can re-download and re-install it if you want.
Now displays the correct name in RW_Tools also.
Thanks for the notification. !!*ok*!!

The route should only buy new users of Train Simulator 2013.
The Train Simulator 2012 users need not buy it because they already have it.

PS: I am Spanish, and I understand a little the English language but not completely. That is why I did not understand the question above.
Sorry.
I hope your question has been resolved now.
