It seems that Reppo develops the model. He also built the Acela for RSC.

Interesting controls and instuments. Clearly something different from an EMD.

Weren't PRR Centipede's passenger units and therefor in Tuscan red?

They proved to be very ineffective in passenger service and were changed to freight and mostly helper service. Should be right at home on "the curve".

That cab looks pretty much like the way Baldwin did things. The old teakettle builders were not long on style, as a general rule, although Alco improved a bit before they gave up the business.

I don't recall whether they were delivered in red or green. The were delivered as passenger engines, but didn't last long that way. They ended up re-geared for freight service, set up as semi-permanently coupled pairs and spent most of their useful lives providing helper service on Horseshoe Curve, according to at least one source I've seen. This move appears to have prompted UP to cancel their order outright. If you can find a copy of Trains' second or third all-diesel issue, from back around the late-'60s (IIRC) there was an excellent article on Baldwin's diesels. I'd quote it to you, but I lost all mine when the hot water heater blew out a few years ago. The upshot of the story is that the operating crews liked them as much as the shop crews loathed them. The most memorable line out of it was, "It's hard to make an elephant purr."

Thanks.

I believe PRR ordered Baldwin "Baby Face" 6 axle units for passenger service. They have the same nose and cab windows, hence my confusion.

Later, when introducing the RF line, Baldwin switched to the sharp and angular Shark Nose.

PRR also ordered 6 axle passenger Sharks and 4 axle freight Sharks, if memory of my 2nd Diesel Spotters Guide serves me right.
Given Baldwin Diesels equipped with Westinghouse gear and traction motors' excellent pulling reputation, I would assume the Sharks were stable power on the Curve as well.

Speaking of Baldwins I'd really like to see somebody do an RF-16.

But only after the AlCO PA!!

I wish they'd do the PA instead of the 'Pede and then a Shark. Centipedes and Babyfaces come about last on my list of first generation passenger cab units. Inbetween should come one of those mean looking FM Erie Builds.

Really hope and want PRR M, I and J class steamers for the Curve much dearer than any Pennsy Diesels but that's better left for another discussion.

I've started working on one, but it's on hold for lack of time.

There seems to be a whole new level of detail to judge by the pictures of the running gear of the Centipede.
Perhaps an indication of a more powerful rendering engine in the coming TS 2013?

Also the taper towards the blunt end of the long carbody comes off quite well in this 5 stripe liverly.

Still doesn't make this engine take the #1 spot on my wish list of most wanted models, but who knows what will come next when this Centipede sells well?
