Nah. I don't plan on getting it until they fix Donner. Plus they will not listen to me.

Wait, wait, Amtrak does not go to Phoenix. I tried last month. Tracks were taken by UP. I wanted to take the Chief from LA Union Station. Train only goes to Casa Grande. Can't get a shuttle or bus up to where mom lives (Cottonwood) I can get a shuttle van from Phoenix. Amtrak does go to Flagstaff, but same issue, no bus or shuttle.

Um, are you sure? I just tried Los Angeles to Phoenix and got the Southwest Chief plus a thruway bus (probably Greyhound under codeshare). SWC to Flagstaff, then bus to Phoenix. I don't know where your mom lives and that still may not work, but it is possible to reach Phoenix direct via Amtrak.

Mom and dad live in Cottonwood. I tried on the Internet to get to Phoenix, it said "no" And I can't see a connection on that map posted. I see Tuscon.

Oh, I see, bus to Phoenix. Probably gonna be from Casa Grande.

Here's what's currently and "prototypical" (I use that term lightly in some cases) modeled in Railworks (Red Lines). Have some work to do. !**duh*!!

Willamette Pass. It's somewhere here in the File Library. The red line should be a little north but whatever..

Can you put San Jose on that map? It is an Amtrak stop (Coast Starlight). It will also mark the south most end of my route. *!greengrin!*

Interesting that Sacramento is not marked.

I think you (and many other detail hounds) are being unfair in your demands/requests/complaints. RW is a railroad simulator, not a railroad replicator. Surely there has to be a balance between "realistic" accuracy and practical playability: there's no sense in shutting folks with less-than-state-of-the-art computers out of the market.

I couldn't agree more... RSC is in business to make money! They do that by appealing to the widest spectrum of users and potential users.

I think you misunderstand my stance on this. I am an amateur modeler, and I was able to make a beacon that (while not perfect) is more pleasing to the eye. Now that I know how much effort it takes to make one, I see their version as simply lazy. Its like the racing stripe on the SdD0T-2, and the engine numbering (just to name a few). All very fixable. All emailed to RSC prior to its release, and nothing was done about it.

Yes its the little things that count, because they add up and show the true value behind the work.

Papa, reply to my blog comment and highlight what you mean. (or pm me)

Every model is open to comments and interpretation. I'm pretty pleased with ours but if we have something wrong and you can show by using examples then I am more than happy to look to improve.

regards

Do you remember that one of the claims of MSTS2 was a national database of the USA with the DEM data and main tracks installed, ready for users to detail? I wonder if such might be possible for RW.

Those claims were for following the basic lines only and without any control over grades and their transitions. Also note that their accuracy was approximate and not dead-on. It was designed only so that users would not fall off the face of the Earth when reaching the end of the line.
