Semi Trailer

Unread postby SMMDigital » Tue Aug 03, 2010 7:17 am

Some time ago, I created a 53' semi-trailer in TSM for "that other simulator", but for whatever reason, never finished it. I have converted it to a 3D Canvas object file, and i'm making it avaiable to anyone who might be interested in it. There is one catch though - it has no textures. With a little TLC (and maybe a few parts additions or replacements) this would make a great static scenery asset for your industries.

The file is free and without restriction, but I would ask that if you modify it, you please upload and share it freely with the rest of the Railworks community.

Available at http://www.smmdigital.net . Look for it in the sidebar.

Off topic:

I really love all your work, especially the houses. The mill house fit in where nothing else would be correct. Keep up the good work. !*YAAA*! !*brav*! **!!bow!!**

Such potential, if someone would just take it home, Charlie Brown...

AND TIMELY... I can use this to test my spine car. OOps... I thought it would help save time... but my version 7.2 won't open it.

Give it a few days and you will have a public release of the finished trailer. These things are pretty ubiquitous, so there's no reason for me to hold it exclusively for my own route.

I've changed the front stands and the rear guard to look a bit more realistic. I've got to add shadows and subtract some unseen faces and it should be good to go.

I haven't seen a Swift around these parts since my days in the carpet industry, about ten years ago. The NFI will be the only road released, for now. I also have a Pepsi trailer, but it's route proprietary for the distribution plant in Chattanooga.

The release will include all of the files necessary to re-skin the trailer to whatever carrier you wish. All you will need are photographs, a photo editor, RW-Ace, and of course the RW Asset Editor.

This has been my biggest problem...finding all reasonable picture directions ( both ends, sides and top ) for the same trailer.

I took the photos of the NFI trailer in the parking lot of a Cowboys gas station, with the camera on my Nokia E71x. If I need to do more, there is an Interstate just down the road from my house that will provide an endless source of semi-trailers. Of course I don't have the roof textures, but I can make those with Photoshop.

I wouldn't put a great deal of effort into making these all out perfect. They are simply static items to fill out businesses. near the tracks. As far as the ends of these trailers, most of them are generic, with no lettering or numbers. Photograph one front and rear end of a trailer, then use your editor to remove the logos and such, and you will have front and rear that could be used on just about any other trailer.

Cool :). I can't do much for realism with a blueprint, but when you can get some front, back, and both sides photos of the real thing, i'll paint one up!

I'm sure everyone would prefer it if we say it like the Germans do. Sounds like "FOOKS" *!lol!*
