Actually, at my last count (a couple of days ago) there were only 18 to 20 different people doing the actual complaining. The length of the topic is from the same people repeating their complaints over and over again. If you think waiting a week is long, think how long most of us have been waiting for the Donner Pass Up-Grade!!!

I was messing around with the Dash-9 file for awhile and came up with the following observations:

1) As downloaded with the update it is useless.

2) If you delete the md5 sum disabling the DRM the pack is selectable in the editor and scenarios using the Dash-9 will load but turn into Picasso paintings whenever you "look" towards a Dash-9 but are normal when you look away. I have no idea what that means but from what I've gathered its linked to a corrupted shape file.

The conclusion I can draw is that the entire problem with the update is simply a bad shape file. The bad file produces an md5 sum that doesn't match the DRM md5 and disabling the DRM allows it to load but still loads a bad shape file leaving the pack as nothing but a Picasso painting.

Is this sensible or am I drawing on poor computer logic?

That IS the DRM. Or at least it's the last step of the DRM. Remove the md5s from some other protected asset like HSC and it'll do the same thing.

I've had RW3 working just fine on an ATi card since the start ( and since I turned off forced AA anyway - iirc forcing AA on for nVidia cards also removed the sky ); after blowing up nVidia cards repeatedly I just gave up on them. The game's PhysX implementation doesn't even use nVidia hardware if present, iirc.

How many people are there out there who are just patiently (or in some cases impatiently) just silently waiting for RSC to fix the problem?

I waited 5 days before I complained here. I assumed they'd have it fixed before then.

RSC will never admit to what percentage of their users have this problem. This is not an RSC thing either. Anyone remember Antenna Gate with the iPhone? Jobs was very quick to down play it.

I have no idea if I have the problem, because I haven't tried a scenario with a Dash 9 since the upgrade.
For me the game (sim) is only scenarios, I don't care a lot about the particular rolling stock, except that I prefer engines from the 40s, 50s and 60s.

To be honest, I have never seen a difference between the Dash 9 and the ES44AC. I can't even tell which one I'm driving.
They are just big, bulky, ugly, modern engines to me.

I am one of the silent ones that haven't posted and I am sure there are many more. I will say that I am pretty sure this is a DRM problem but why it would be working for some I don't know. Hopefully they figer it out soon.

Me too.
I'm sure RSC will figure it out eventually *!question!*

Good point. I, along with many others have not registered a support request with RSC, so the number of affected customers is under represented with their "official" tally as well. Two more people have chimed in on this thread after your comment indicating that this was their first post that their Dash9 was broken after the update too.

Hi all,
I guess I may as well add my **!!2cents!!** ,my 9's are broken too.
I've been detoxing myself for about a month and a half now,and when I come back, there's lots more than my 9's that are broken.
Most all my freeware routes will not start, and even some of my default stuff is wacky.Only thing to do,is,re-install my back-up,and go off-line.
Like Jerry said,at least I can still play.(sorry about your HD,Papa)
Oh yea,I am FREE,and can SEE now.

As far as I am concerned, if I had a son that had done this to someone, I would have spanked him for stealing. I have said this before in this. This will show me how they will treat the US market. I have spent a large sum of money ( to me ) on a computer to run this sim. Now they are messing with MY DLC that I spent MY money on and I am not happy at all. It may have just been $20, but it was my $20. I should not have to have a Master's Degree in computer science to be able to play. Now it seems that even more DLC content is being affected. This forum is more than likely like most others. There are a few of us on this forum with hundreds more who are not. Maybe thousands I do not know. At this point, to me at least, RSC had better wake up. This has gone from absurd to just down right ridiculous.

Dash 9 gate!

I hope that term catches on and gets used in the future when something else breaks after an update :)

Well, we've already had NEC gate, Donner Pass gate, Service 1 Pack Update gate and now Dash 9 gate, everything that gets upgraded nowadays to TS2012 standard seems to fail miserably in its downloading process, we've got the ES44 next and then the SD40-2 is due for an upgrade, they'll have no workable locomotives left soon, no wonder some end-users call it Rail Fail.
And I'm from across the pond and my Dash 9 didn't work either, and I'm not the only Brit, after the Steam upgrade installation, so, I've joined your little club. !*salute*!

Just great, folks! Now we can add "xxx gate" to "broke" and all the rest of this forum's boilerplate language. Thanks for keeping things interesting. *!rolleyes!*
