Steam Store Trouble

Unread postby Cardinal51 » Wed Jul 18, 2012 1:00 pm

I wonder why steam makes it so difficult to buy from their store.

I am often away from home weeks after a time. When ever there is a nice offer on steam I can not figure out how to buy it.

Seems steam expects / wants me to install their software on my company laptop in order to buy stuff and l log in to the steam store.

Is there a way around this ?

Can't I just give them money so they give me the product ? That system worked perfectly for thousands of years.

If you log on to Steam with your laptop, you can still purchase items. Just don't tell Steam to install them. then when you are at the PC where you want to load your purchases, just log on to Steam from that PC and tell Steam to do the download/installation.

For what it's worth you can install your Steam games on multiple PC's but you can only play them on one machine at a time, the one you're currently logged onto Steam with.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help guys

Unfortunately I am the only person in the world who does not remember all his paswords . . . and in order to reset a steam pasword one needs to install steam.

I keep wondering why they make it so difficult for me to give them my money :-(

I think that it is you who makes it difficult to give them your money.
After all, it is not the problem of Steam, if you cannot remember your password. *!!wink!!*

I buy Steam products from any of my computers, including from my office where I even have not Steam installed, as Nick said.

On my home pc I use lastpass. For security reasons software like that can not be installed on my laptop

This evening some one wrote me that even when I remember my pw I can not buy stuff. Steam requires one to buy in the same country as where you live, when you are abroad it is impossible to checkout from the store.

I only know of the fact that you have to confirm that you currently live at the address that you have entered in the field.
I have never tried to buy from Steam while being abroad, but "address you currently live" for me is your home address and not the location you are right now. !*don-know!*

Anybody here who can try and confirm this?

There are certain games that Steam will not let you buy in certain countries, like Germany and Australia, but that's because of violence and gore. So TS2012 should be available anywhere. It could be down to your Internet provider.

You need a Steam account, therefore Steam has to be installed on the laptop or PC you want to buy from. Plus, with all the sales going on, the Store is darn right sluggish. I get an "error 505" once I click on Purchase. (I did have 5 items in my shopping cart, tho) Clicked on "Back" hit the Purchase button again and it finally works. Now I'm gonna spend 2 days downloading all this stuff. !*hp*!

Sorry, I forgot to add a smiley...
I was saying that they don't make it difficult, the problem is that you forgot your password.
They can't do business online with you if you can't authenticate yourself.

Bummer that you must install the client in order to retrieve your password.
Perhaps you can find a computer for a temporary install?

Hahaha, guess it is really important for them that they know I real am MrGoGo, or Amtrak2000, or whatever alias I have. !*roll-laugh*!

Some one at home retrieved my pasword.

But there is another problem. My billing address is not accepted, looks like Steam checks the IP and wants it to be the same as your home country. So next step is I am gonna try to enter the Hotel address as the billing address instead of my real home address.

Well, that did not work either.

What a pitty that the Steam Store has such a bad system and makes one jump through hoops and then still makes it impossible to buy stuff. I guess they have a team of engineers in a special office trying to think of ways to prevent people from buying their bargains and force them to pay the normal price.

If you're using a credit card, the billing address you enter must match the billing address of the credit card.
That's for security reasons with the credit card company.
